the connector from the head unit with the clip to secure it in the middle is the one you are looking for. I cant remember if this is the white one or the black one.
If you look at the connector with the pins facing you they would be numbered as follows...
8 6 4 2

There is a quick way that will give you a ballpark figure.
check the size of the fuse on the amp, multiply it by 12(for 12v), then half it and divide it by the number of channels and that will give you about the correct figure. ie.
Example...
4 channel amp with a 30amp fuse. 30 x 12 =...

That looks like the old pipercross vector filters. In fact I have a nearly new one in a box up in my loft if you are interested:) Mine looks the exact same as that one apart from having a pipercross logo on it and the inlet pipe isnt as long IIRC

I have just had a quick look under the bonnet and it is a bit tight for space.
Without poking around too much, I couldnt find an easy way through with existing cables/grommets.
I have a 99 1.6. It is the one before the rsi, its called just 16v. has the same interior as the 172 only with cloth for the seats, and a leather wheel instead of alcantara
