05 182 from Ford dealer - warranty/gap insurance?

Sorry if I've got the wrong forum - this is my first post here

Just put a deposit on an 05 182 from a Ford dealer and they're trying to get me to take out a warranty (£600 for 24 months) and gap insurance (£400 for 3 years).

Normally I wouldn't bother, however I had a 53 172 from new a few years ago and had a nightmare with the aircon failing a few times. As much as I love Clio 1*2's, my old one didn't quite seem as reliable as my current car (H**da S2)

I'd appreciate your opinions on whether either gap insurance or warranty from the Ford dealer would be worth it?

Get a warranty elsewhere. I've no idea about gap insurance, you can probably get that cheaper elsewhere too.

Find out who the warranty is with then buy it direct, prob with motorcare, they wouldn't cover air con anyway.

I thought Gap insurance just meant if you bought a new car for say £15k and then you crash it 2months later when its worth £3k less you get the original value?

Hardly seems worth it on a 182 that cant be more than about £6k?

Thats exactly how it works . Your insurance compay pays out the book price and the gap insurance pays the rest making it up to the value of the car when you purchased it .

Wow, thanks for the quick response guys. Googled gap insurance and just got a quote for £94 for a couple of minutes work.

Anyone here used any particular warranty suppliers or got any recommendations?

  RB 197 fatty
i just bought a 197 and they tried charging me loads for gap and extra warranty. just do google search, theres loads of better companies out therethat will do it cheaper.... and you can do it for as little as a year. its what im gonna do. the first year i will be paying of the added interest part of the finance if you see what i mean. after that it wont matter there shouldnt be a difference. It saved me £££'s!!!!

not sure about warranty tho. i got another year and 3 months left manufacturers on it. think its prob a good idea to extend it tho?
