Called up my local garage for a price on the above. The guy quoted £80 labour, then £20ish for discs and £20ish for pads. I make that out to be around £120. Now, just had a phone call just now saying it was ready, and that it had come to just under £200!!! I didn't have time to argue as I'm at work just now, but does anyone have any idea where this clown has come up with that price? I have a bad feeling I'm going to get totally done.

200! Mad. Probably charged you 1.5 hours of labour + parts + VAT.

shoudl have done them yourself. only thing i can think of is that your old disc may have been rusted onto the hub in which case he may have needed to heat them to take them off. still i would refuse to pay £200. tell him you siad £120 so your not paying anymore. im sick of garages doing this to people. exact same happened to me last year and i refused to pay anymore than what we agreed on

I'd mine done in just over an hour and parts only cost about £80...

Heat the disc? Nooo.... Large hammer... if that doesnt work... try cuttin a groove down it with a hacksaw to release some tention in it. Works for me! :)

Yeah, a lot of garages try it on

Out of interest what sort of mileage do discs and pads need changing on the 1.2's?

alex-depends how much you use them!

Thats abit pricey! Like has been said should have done it yourself, easy stuff.
Cant see it taking more than a hour to do both dics and a set of pads. could even bleed the brakes in that time to

Should of done it yourself, but it done now.
Tell them the estimate was £120. Fair enough a little over. Then barter on the price, no receipt, no VAT, 15% off, cash job.
