My mum and I spent the afternoon looking at new cars for her. We were both quite impressed by the 206 after a test drive, but the salesman wouldnt name us a price until "we showed committment" (not sure what that meant as we have cash, no PX and want a car ASAP!). This, obviously was a bit of a turnoff - meaning that we only had the £9,800 price of a 206 1.4 S to go on.
Around the corner to Renault we went. I had assured my mum that Renault were usually willing to play ball on price, but she really had liked the 206. Anyway, after a good 40 minute test drive of a 1.2 Dynamique, we moved in for the kill with our combined haggling skills. The sales lady was actually the same as had sold my family our first Clio in 1995 and she was straight to the point. My mum really wanted the 1.4 if possible, but the best deal was on the 1.2.
To cut a long story short, we can get a brand spanking new 1.2 Dynamique with metallic paint for £7,300 or £7,800 with air con!!
This is from Renault Cardiff - not some import or discount pre-reg dealer. Renault are doing a finance deal at the mo where the basic price for a 1.2 Dynamique is cut to £7080 and then finance charges added to make a final price of about £8,600 (good enough in itself on a £9,300 car by list). Although you sign the finance agreement, there is nothing to stop you settling early at the expense of a small fee from Renault Finance.
Sadly, this deal is only available on the 1.2 Dynamique - but needless to say, the 206 is now out of contention! Couldnt believe it myself! I think its a bargain for cash buyers!
