1.2 engine sound on idle

i know its typical renault build quality etc, but my 1.2 dos sound a little like a diesel, not al low in tone, but it does kinda chug a bit,

like a tiny tractor really, should it be this bad , could it just be the engine mounts (causing the loose engine to vibrate a bit)

Every renault i've come across ( 21, 5, clio mk2, clio mk3 ) have always been tappy and rough on idle.

All renaults are tappy on idle apparently, something to do with piston slap. Even my 197 does it.

It's quite bad when driving for me, it gets faster and faster and I can hear it over my exhaust on motorways! :dapprove:

might sourt it out a bit actually, im still packing the shitty renault cardboard one, thinkim gonna have to got for a k&n or the likes!

If it was an open filter maybe, like the K&N 57i. But then u lose performance through hot air, and unless your winding the revs up an air filter doesnt really make any noise at all... so no im afraid.

surely a bit expensive just to sort out the idle?

If its a closed induction like the CDA or pipercross viper it wont make any noise on idle.

Cant really do anything for the rough idle, some expensive oil will quieten it down abit.

Maybe some additional insulation on the underside of the bonnet?

no. ive had both a bmc and 2 vipers and they dont change the sound by much. also had a big cone filter on it at some point and still no difference

Id be checkin the tappets tbh, rather than spending a fair amount on an Air Filter :S?

I didnt think they were hydraulic.

Thought they were the same as the D7F 1.2 8 Valve

mine does this it really annoying when u pull up next to some 1 and all you can hear is it tapping away! mine gets louder and i accelerate iv adjusted my tappets but hasnt made a diff :S
