1.2 subframe on a 172...and steering problems

i searched already but couldn't find results to my questions...anyways....

are the missing lower gearbox mount holes marked on the 1.2 subframe?
how hard is it to drill through? is it doable with the subframe on the car?

i don't really want to take off the subframe in my car park on jackstands.....so if i can just drill the holes with the car jacked it'd be a lot easier

reason... i asked my mechanic to replace the subframe after seeing the wishbone mount poorly welded on for reasons unknown...he put a subframe on and left the lower gearbox mount out without telling me.... went to another specialist and noticed the missing mount so i want to sort this

also have some issues with steering that comes and goes...sometimes my wheel is a bit to the left when driving straight, sometimes its to the right...
also i sometimes get knocks when i turn the wheel without car moving.. i bought some new cup wishbones and waiting to see if it will solve the issue but its not, should i be looking at a new rack?

two mechanics confirmed there is no movement on the inner and outer tie rods... one said rack, one said ball joints...

A 1.2 subframe wouldn't have the lower gearbox mount holes.
The hole is angled I believe so would be a little difficult to replicate.

I appreciate it may because you happen to have one to hand...but why jury-rig a 1.2 subframe into place when you could probably get a 172 frame for not that much from a breakers.

anyways the main reason is... i dont really want to.take the subframe off unless i have to

Knocking sounds like the rack bolts arent tight and letting the rack shift side to side.

not sure mate....like everything else on the car...its airgunned in by my mechanic....it should be tight but...i will look at it next time when i get my digital torque wrench adapter

i had a look under the car...it seems the subframe isnt too hard to take off but...i will need the car jacked up quite a bit and...its gonna be a pain in the ass to do it by myself....

The track on a 1.2 subframe is also narrower. The bolts on the wishbone holes are further inboard.

Yes, the cup subframe holes are further out again

cup is wider than normal 172
and
normal 172 is wider than 1.2?

dan ..got another q, will a 172 cup subframe fit a 172 as the wishbone mounting points are wider? since im getting looking for another subframe it would make sense to upgrade

I'm pretty sure the cup subframe will fit. I think it would need the cup anti roll bar too

are the arb droplinks different or the arb itself? my searches only turn up how hard it is to install the arb bushes and i don't think im competent enough to do it

The cup ARB is thicker..25mm and the spacing of the drop links are different too
