1*2s when cold...

  Black Ph2 172
...really are horrible things - don't seem to want to go anywhere, gearbox is stiff but 10 mins of warming the engine up transforms the car...anybody else experience this?

ANDY

Mine doesn't like the initial start either... Pops and bangs like a b**ch until warm tho :D

  PH1 V6
funny you say this because on really cold mornings (like today) my car doesnt like to start... it does eventually start but after a few attempts!!!

weird! lol

I find my car has loads of flat spots and is generally rough and lumpy when its cold.

Once its been running for 5-10 mins its nice and smooth again.

yeah I get the pop and bang of the exhaust - the 3k think is strange it's like there is a limiter on at early rpm...both of my 172s have been like that...

My 172 seems to run 90% as well as normal from cold nowadays, always used to be a bit lumpy changing gears before the gearbox was reconditioned though.

  Nimbus Megane R26
mines the same, although soon as the needle moves off cold its fine..takes maybe 2 mins. Miltek with standard cat in though and pops and bangs like crazy..wish it did that all the time but dont want to decat it. Any other way of getting it to do it all the time? lol

Mine feels terrible too, as others have said there is a reason for it though.
The box feels worse than the engine imo.

I start it, allow it to idle for 30-60 seconds, give it a blip 2-3 times, then pull away. I refuse to take it over 3K & use very progressive throttle for the first 15-20 mins.

Once I've started my 182 I always wait for the OIL OK light to go off, then never go above 2500/3000rpm till its warmed up, never had any problems doing that.

Mines a bit jumpy from cold but idles well. Gearbox is frozen though. Does not like 1st gear when first started. Always leave it a minute or so to get it running. :D

Mine has been mapped by Paul at RS Tuning and it still does it lol... All be it not as bad :). The cold map on RS's is s**te.

Its the Fastchip RStuner that I've mappe dmine with, can't remember which map I have on though but I think just 100/150rpm higher at idle makes big difference.

  Lots of Alfas
The best thing about 172/182s is cold days, it will beat any other car to warm its blowers up first. However on the 172mk1s the metal gearknob gives your hand frostbite...
