1.4 16v MPG?

I have a 05 reg 1.4 dynamique, My trip computer on the car says that i am getting 30.5 MPG i am going on average runs 60mph fast roads (not around town). i dont drive fast , is this about what everyone else is getting? my mate has got a 172 and hes even getting 30.5mpg...

I fitted an induction kit yesterday to find that the air feed wasnt located in the bottom right hole (the air chamber) and when i checked the filter it was a mess. but even this isnt the problem..

Any ideas?

Im getting 33mpg (1.6) and thats with a lot of town driving in heavy traffic.

our 1.6 16v averages 42mpg with lots of motorway driving

Even a 172 should get 35

my 1.4 16v 52 plate does 36-37 in traffic as long as i dont rag it. motorway journeys i see 45mpg +

i reset the computer when i got the car, done 800 miles since. car has got 35000 miles on and like i say i dont drive it fast. ill try looking at the spark plugs but dont think that this will make much difference? are spark plugs easy to change on this car i could have a look now.

No bad idling car drives fine, nice and smooth and good acceleration. dont know

Go reset it and take the car for a half hour spin gently to settle the computer. then see what its reading. if your driving sensibly and changing early and crusing through 30's and 40's in 5th at the speed limit then it should be at least 35mpg. if not then somthings wrong.

My mums 1.4 16v megane dynamique is also really bad on MPG, it never goes above 30mpg. Could this be the lambda? I think it is down on acceleration and doesn't idle well at al, at times. isn't the lambda sensor the first one after the manifold? Does anyone know how much a new lambda sensor is? thanks

i wouldnt trust what the display says tbh, mine saysing im getting 38 ish in a 172 lol

I get 35.8 av (reset every tank) from a tank town/motorway driving out of my 172.

1.4 16v sould be around 40 if your taking it easy

I run it on optimax and redex to clear out the carbon deposits

A common problem is with the cat, mine got changed because fuel ruined it and it was doing about 25mpg then

in my 1.6 i get 40mpg normal driving (around town and not taking it easy) but can get up to about 52 driving like a granny

call me immature but i cant keep a straight face when a girl makes a comment like that :rasp:

i did a gearbox job on a saxo for a girl once and half way through the job phoned her and advised that the clutch was knackered to which she replied "yeah i tend to ride it"
she sounded quite akward as i giggled..


on a serious note on my 1.2 it ranges from about 30 to 50 depending what sort of mood im in

hoping to get that right down when the 172 lump goes in

ive heard that the 1.4 is quite poor economy wise, ,my 1.2 averages, 44ish thats with 30miles aday on the motorway and perhaps only 50 town miles aweek, but the car parks are a beatch tho. when i rag it i generally cant get it any lower than 38 lol. abd i cant get it to break 50mpg, i done a 400mil round trip and it sat at 49.9 the whole way lol.

check your tyre pressures if mine drops 2 psi i notice sliggisht handling and the arse falls out my tank. and i struggle to get the MPG above 41. and as said try to shift up before 2.5k, no heel and toe downshifting (cost me about £3 in fuel cost lol), try drive 1 gear higher than what you were taught to, so sit ins 30 in 5th and the engine should sit about 1500rpm take all unessesary items out the car, drive with windows up an use the cold air vents, feather light touch on throttle, try not to brake come off the gas instead etc etc. well thats the governments advise.
i usually find i get the best out of the car, both performance and economy if i drive it like the nation who developed the car. look on youtube for french driving and you'll get the idea lol.

I 've got a 1.2 clio and used to get 50 mpg then it went in for a MOT and Service, now I'm only getting 35mpg max,.....I don't really have a clue about it neither so I just leave it lol
