are these any good?

im sure i read somewhere that they handle completely different from a 1.2 16v dynamique? is this true, if so why?

a worthy upgrade?what is the speed difference, i know they have 110bhp...

  CB600FS
Yeah they handle better the suspensions stiffer (even more so on the 1.6s/DCIs to take the fatter engines) anything above a 1.2 ie 1.4/1.5d/1.6 has 'sport' suspension aswell. It'll also have sports ratio steering aswell

does this make much difference to the handling and ride?

i think ill lower it anyway...

  BMW M135i
Ride is still comfy enough as standard, the better weighted steering is much better than the 1.2.

Power wise it'll feel quite a bit quicker than your 1.2 but where you'll really notice it is how it'll keep on pulling to a ton rather than running out of puff at 60.

cheers for the vid bmh! hopefully its a good car, ill see what i think.

its HPI clear, should have full service history too.

I bought a 2003 plate last month with 27,000 miles on the clock. Very nice, not driven the 1.2s but when i see one it does appear to have more body roll than mine when cornering, and mine is def faster.

Suspension seems harsh on mine comapred to my mates Leon Cupra though.

But very impressed with it. Recommend getting one mate.

i remember speaking to him about them a few months ago, ill await his opinion in here!!!

Hey i went from a 1.2 '99 clio to the 1.6 16v a few months ago and they dont feel like the same car one bit to me! for one my old was a grande and new a dynamic so the seat hold you so much tighter which is great for when you look down at the speedo! mine hates sitting at 30mph though!! :) speed wise it takes some getting used to at 1st. put my foot down to over take and with out trying got a bit close to the back ends of the car infront. i love mine!

Bushes and suspension on the larger engines is harder for engine the 1.6 and dci use the super thick ARB as well.

As for are they an upgrade well personaly I'd always pay the extra and get a 172/182.

There nice though just a bit hardser setup more powerful 1.2.

the insurance for a 172 is £5k, whereas this is £916!!

plus it will do me until I qualified next year, then ill be getting something a bit more insane than a 172 i hope!
it will be fast enough to last me, im just a bit bored of the 1.2 16v now, want some more oomph!

IMO do the jump or don't bother the Hp isn't that huge anyway.

IMO its not just a matter of paying a bit extra to buy a 1*2, its the extra insurance and running costs as well.

i couldnt have afforded the 1*2 but the 1.6 was within my grasp and provided a better package than the 1.2

still, each to his own.

But you will notice the difference over the 1.2.

Incidentally, what are you thinking of getting when you are qualified?

to be honest im not too sure, but will be on a fair whack so something silly is in order, will only be 19 though so i reckon i will end up getting something when im 21 instead.

im liking the sounds of a superchraged DC5!

or an S15 with a couple of power increases!

i want osmething that you dont see everyday, a bit special.

I dont want to put you off if you've made your mind up already, you'll enjoy the 1.6, they are good cars (I own one and I'm pleased with it) but if it's only a case of 2 more years it might make more sense to save up all that extra you'll spend on insurance etc and put it towards getting the ideal car then while running around in (what is already) a fairly decent motor.

to be honest I would rather get one now!

i know what you mean about saving up but the difference in price in a few years will only be marginal anyway, its a risk i'm willing to take!

thanks for the advice anyway, i know where you're coming from

i wouldnt bother, i went from my 1.2 16v to my 172 and to me it doesnt feel THAT much faster, it handles really well, but so do standard 1.2 16v's so even at that its not a night and day difference.

when i go back and take my 1.2 a blast it doesnt feel slow, i only notice the lack of torque, i still find it fine for overtaking etc.

Well seeing as your set on one I'll give you an honest reveiw of mine.

I think the clio's 1.6 likes to be driven, as another post suggested they are not really as happy around town as a 1.2, they sit on a motorway much better and the fuel economy is very good even at 70.

I find mine is more than adequate performance wize and although it naturally isnt as quick as a 1*2 it wont struggle even if you are carrying 3 or 4 passengers on hills. It pulls cleanly in all gears at anything above 1.5k revs and the engine sounds really quite good after about 4k revs for a 4 cylinder.

A fairly light car like the clio with a 1.6 engine means that you cant feel the weight of the car much on acceleration or on hills. Some small engined or heavier cars I've driven feel like you're carrying a dead weight even before you've filled seats with people or the boot with stuff, I've not noticed this to be a problem in my 1.6.

Suspension is good

Ignor the start (unless you can understand the language) but the handling tests about half way in are quite interesting (professional driver), kicking up back wheel and even airbourne at 1 point.

thanks for posting that links & it great. I understand what he talking about:approve:

They are awesome car & great fun to drive. That model is the faster non rs clio ever made & the lighter. I'm not making this up!! I hear that somewhere back in 1999 or 2000 in renault newletter, I think I still got it around somewhere.

I still love my car atm!

andy i do want your car, will seriously think about it when my car has gone.

i was contemplating it tbh. Im not sure what to do now seeing as i have diffuicult parents. I can either wait untill next year to get my dad's colt, and by which time i have the opportunity to give them my car as a PX on a new one, and mebeh a bit of cash.

Or i can wait till november and sellmine and put the cash towards a 1.6.

Kinda thinking i should take the colt for a year or so untill im 20 and have a big save - only a 1.1L so insurance wont be too hefty, by which time i will be able to get reasonable insurance on a 172 and depending on my circumstances i might buy one. I can also mod the colt, ie - resit the exhaust, lower it and get some spacers on the back wheels. only a 1.1 but it does sound the dog's b****cks, its slow but it does have it's advantages.....like £100 tax, cheap insurance, and high MPG, very very high for a petrol.

TBH the insurance is the same for me. sounds like your 19, or even 18. Why not wait till your 20 or somehting and then make the jump to the 172. Its a long way off but give it some time and youll be glad you waited. Trouble is by the time im 20 i might want somehitng else. Like the colt CZ3 only with a 1.5, mabeh a 1,5 turbo.
