1.6 16v engine query

2 Things really, firstly What oil does the 1.6 16v engine take?
Secondly my cars been shaking slightly at idle and sometimes dropping and cutting out, the STOP light and the battery light came on when I was driving but then went straight back off...Is this likely to be the battery or something else? Dont think its coils as I had that a few months ago and a different light comes on.

Yeh battery is a possibility, how old is it and is it the original battery?

Oil wise I always used to put 5w40 fully synth in mine although theres no "set" grade i'd stick to that.

Is 10w40 ok? I've already got some of that in my garage

Cleaned the throttle body at all? How dirty is it?

It used to play havok with mine when it got dirty.

thats the coils packing up , i had the same prob when i was in wales

I've already had the coil issue and im pretty sure it not this as different warning lights came on and stuff

i phoned up renault to ask them what oil they recommended putting in my old 1.6, and the guy in service and parts didnt know what grade it took.

should run, the engine runs from alternator power once it's going, the battery is just a reserve and for starting really

So It'll be either the alternator or the lambda sensor im guessing then

LOL! Where do you think the ground comes into all of this? Disconneect the battery it'll stop.

Ya, Try cleaning the throttle body.
My tickover was up and down like a yo-yo but this sorted it out totally.
