1.6 16v over-revving when cold

As above - 2002 model Clio 1.6 16v - engine revs to about 5k rpm on its own when cold.

Anyone else had this - its fine once its warmed up.

i havent had that before but my wipers sometimes, if on intermediate, have an attack of somekind and go full speed????

Sounds like a faulty sensor. The enigne hotter when its cold to help reduce emisions and get to max economy quickly. Sunds like a sensor has gone faulty or the ecu needs relading with new software.
