1.6 induction kit fitting

  S4 Avant
Im after some help regarding an induction kit i have. As far as i am aware it is a universal fit, so should fit my 1.6. Anyway, after looking through the searches on the topic there are alot of results to do with 1.2 etc, and only a few on 1.6. From what ive seen the 1.4 engine is the same as the 1.6, on many of the threads though when people have fitted an indcution kit to a 1.4 theyve removed the whole air box, i was wondering on a few options though:

a) is it possible to remove the front section only (the part with the fury pipe) and leave the back compartment on, obviously removing the air filter though, and connect the induction kit to that part, however there is a dilemma because the ring that the detachable air pipe joins to is some pathetic french shape, like a squashed ring... in that case is it possible to by an adapter or whatever the correct name is so that i can join it easier.

b) is it easier to remove the full airbox including the back section? i have seen a few threads on here where a 1.4 has had the full back section removed so it is an easier fit straight into the circular intake. however, from what ive read there has been problems because its so damn small, and in typical french fashion no human can fit there arm there. Also is there any other problems with this?

Finally if i go with option b, is it easy enough to remove the airbox? without any complications, and also if i go for option a (if possible) is there any complications with that.

This is a picture of said induction kit, with all the parts that came with it:

The three small tubes are flexible rubber, in different sizes at the top if that helps. If i need to buy any other parts, any help would be appreciated also.

Cheers

To begin with - NEVER buy universal.

I wouldn't advise the second option at all, that's if the pipe is even the correct diameter to fit over the throttle body, not to mention the amount of bending in the pipe to make it reach round.

Ideally you want to run it from the back section and yes you need to remove the standard filter otherwise your defeating the point of fitting the kit in the first place.

Personally I wouldn't put that thing anywhere near your motor. All you will get is more noise anyway, your money would be better spent on a manifold back system if noise is what you are after.

If you really want an induction kit at least get something made for that car.

There's nothing wrong with an aftermarket panel filter and a nice subtle sticker on the airbox to show what's in there.

cheers for the help, il more than likely not put it on the car tbh, i didnt actualy pay anything for it, so atleast i havnt lost out there, i may just try and flog it on ebay. As far as a new panel filter goes, what will i acually get from putting one of them in?

panel filter will give no extra noise and be slighhtly more free flowing giving you a tiny power gain.

remove the resonator off the airbox (big black chamber that had a feed going onto it from the battery area, all you need to do is pull the little rubber tie thing off and then pull her off, that will give you loads of noise on full throttle i do it when im driving my mrs car lol

yeah i remember someing mentioning that then giving it a trym it did give a fair bit grunt, but wouldnt that just result in hot air being sucked into the engine?

ah i see, whats in the resanator box? anything in perticular that is needed? and also, the hole that the resanator box connects to the airbox is possibly the most retarded shape ever.

cheers
