Surely the insurance on a car with a new engine is going to be fairly similar to a valver anyway, or if not declared - illegal/fronting etc...?

  mk1 clio maxim
well.. as much as i would love to declare it as i say... we can clearly see thats not going to happen im only 18 :dapprove:

Firstly, don your flame suit...

Secondly, you might as well not bother paying insurance in that case. It'll be less valid than lbrench's road story threads !!

well a suppose if the i manage to get the insurance low enuff i will obviously declare it... as for the info any on done such a job before?

So you blatently admiting your going to put a turbo charged engine, in a car which is ment to have a 1.4. Then your gona fly around in your so called '1.4' then crash in to someone when your insurance will be void cos you didnt tell them your '1.4' is a 1.8 turbo ????

Why???

  mk1 clio maxim
the point of this engine swop is not to drive around and crash like a t**t at all... its what i want to take on for my next project with a mate

forget it, massive pain in the ass turboing a valver as there is so little space and it gets pretty expensive going low comp...

imo if youve got your heart set on a turbo engine conversion put a 1.7 volvo turbo in it, much better bang for your buck!!!

Nothing wrong with a project mate, but no one is going to help someone who is openly admiting that they are going to insure a 1.8 turbo as a 1.4....

volvo lump is the way forward cheapest and quickest transplant and donar volvos are easy to come by
he will proberly be 21 by time hes got it right anyway lol

  mk1 clio maxim
iv heard of thoose volvo lumps? out of the 480 am i rite? havnt really heard of many people doing that tbf!... have been in discussion with engine dynamics concerning engine... probably go all out and forge it rather than low comp.... but that depends..:S

  mk1 clio maxim
i probably wont get round to insuring it.. get it complete before next summer and sell it on for another project... by then ill be 19 so insurance will be slightly cheaper

Done a volvo turbo transplant and a straight valver transplant.

Valver is by far the easier one to do but we didnt turbo that. And neither should you.

Yeah, basically. I stripped the 2 cars on the Friday then on the Saturday Djw Dave (who owned teh cars) and my brother an I took both the engines out, swapped them around and had it running again on the Sunday afternoon. If you're a mechanic to trade it shouldnt be an issue. Cos we're not.

1.4 but they are the same. The difference at the front end between the 1.2/4 and 1.8/2.0 shells are that the slam panel unbolts on the 1.8/2.0 shells.
