I've had the clio just over a year, and today has been the first time i've drove it without something being broken or needing to be done, All I can say is what a car!

Bought the Car for £4895 with 44k on the clock in sept 2006

Now on 64k

Things that have needed to be replaced due to failure/ worn out:
Cambelt etc £404
TDC sensor - £60
New gearbox -£1000
New front disks- £120
Rear disks and bearings- £175
New Exhaust- £500
New Rear dampers- £106
New lower radiator hose + coolant £110
Wheel arch liner £26
Windows wipers £30

182 wheels with tyres £450 (sold 172 ones so worked out same as new tyres)
Service- £200
MOT- £40
Insurance £960
Tax £215

So to summarize my cars cost me £4396 this year to run before putting in any fuel and paying for it.

Problem was all the stuff that broke ment i couldn't sell it, so had to fix it, but then something else would break, big negative circle, and now i've replaced EVERYTHING on the car might aswell keep it.

  Mk4 .:R32
You may as well keep it and run it into the ground mate. otherwise you will have lost loooads of money

  Leon Cupra 300

I bought mine July 06 on 24k, and touch wood nothing has gone on it apart from the cambelt tensioner.. This was replaced when i got the cambelt done so all ok. :D

Where do you buy your parts from? £500 for a exhaust, they saw you coming!

Don't believe in buying cheap stuff, had all work done by specialists recomened on here, it's a yozzasport exhaust fitted so worth the dosh IMO.

Won't say what mine cost, although its around second hand trophy money. Although I'm certainly not compaining. :race:

If you don't believe in buying cheap stuff then why are you complaining about the cost of running your car for a year?

In fairness exhaust was only thing that cost more than i needed to spend.

I bought my ph-quick this time last year with 24,000 miles on it, in a year and 12,000 miles is cost me the price of a 36k service and cambelt change. Cant complain!!

Why did you need a new gear box and arch liners out of interest?

Arch liner dropped out and melted on the tyre (had just done 130mph+ and a few laps of the ring) and gearbox crutched like a b**ch in 3rd.

Only prob is in 1 years time i'll have 80k+ on it so will be worth feck all, but don't wanna keep it forever and i'm not selling now after spending all that.

Then what do you expect! Given that description I'm not supprised your car is falling apart.

Although I guess your avatar explains that anyway.

ouch, i thought spending 1k in 8 months on my 1.2 was bad

im sure it will find something elso to go wrong though...

£1k for gearbox from renault, + new clutch and fitting, about the going rate.

  A money pit
I've roughly spent 2k excluding tax and insurance since June! I wish the cheap things would break and also not everything at once. If I didn't like the drive "The Money Pit" would be up for sale. By the time I have finished I will practically have a new car :S

to be fair 1815 poundsworth you knew you would have had to pay. and you chose to go to a dealer for the gearbox and spend on an upgrade the exhaust.

  Scirocco GT 210
Had my rattle bucket for 3 years now. It sounds and feels like it's going to break every second i'm in it.

However things rarely actually break. In 3 years all I've spent (apart from the usuals) is about £300 for a new exhaust and some new brake pads. And a new cambelt of course, which I managed to get done for a good price.

I haven't even had to change the tyres or any bulbs.

A small number of other little things have gone wrong but I've managed to fix them myself for free (i.e. the window regulators breaking (both sides)).

Things that have needed to be replaced due to failure/ worn out:
Cambelt etc £404 - Surely you knew when you bought
TDC sensor - £60
New gearbox -£1000 Surely could have been done for half that price?
New front disks- £120 Surely you knew when you bought?
Rear disks and bearings- £175 Surely you knew when you bought it?
New Exhaust- £500 Could have been done for half the price even with a stainless one
New Rear dampers- £106
New lower radiator hose + coolant £110 Breakers would have been half the price
Wheel arch liner £26
Windows wipers £30 (£30??? lol again a set of wipers can be had for a tenner, but clutching at strawes)

182 wheels with tyres £450 (sold 172 ones so worked out same as new tyres) Surely you knew when you bought it that the tyres needed replacing or would do? tyres are around 67 a corner for michelins. so £280???
Service- £200 so two serices a year? doing around 18-24k
MOT- £40 - Standard cost
Insurance £960 Granted not cheap, but that was cost that you knew before you bought it
Tax £215

So to summarize my cars cost me £4396 this year to run before putting in any fuel and paying for it.

Im not being funny mate, but ive had my ph-quick 7mths. Paid 4k for it, its cost me new tyres and tax and thats it...... done 5k in it inc a ring trip. Insurance is 330 for the year;) about to change the discs alround and pads and its 7.5 yrs old. But I looked at 7+ ph quicks to makes sure i got a decent one. Like most hot hatches you have to chose wisely.

Just think if youd bought a golf or a beemer what the repair cost would be like for the above!!

I agree with Ad tbh.
At the end of the day the price you paid for it was pretty cheap, so now it's cost you in the long run.

I have had a similar time/mileage/expense. Except no gearbox yet.

Did you get your top mounts done?

That gearbox was fitted by a specialist! Was bargain i think, like to see you get a new gearbox and clutch fitted for £1k

Not had any top mounts done, my car seem to suffer none of the common problems, mounts, stearing wheel, ecu bracket washer yets all been fine

Exactly. The last owner probably got rid knowing it needed new tyres, cambelt, brakes etc, hense why you got it cheap ;)

Maybe this is why the sports are so cheap to start with... Renault make all there dosh on the parts we buy it breaks down.. ;)

In fairness i reckon i got it £1k under priced I would defo want what i paid for it still., so apart from the gearbox it's not been to bad. Should last for ages now.
