106 GTi Progress

Quite a few little improvements, originally wanted rocker covers polished, but got extremely bored of sanding and wacked out the red paint, also got the Gunk and black Hammerite out and attacked some of the gippo rust.

Got abit carried away and done the bonnet lifters to match.

Also bought these, everyone on 106owners said they need H1 bulbs, so at the same time i ordered a HID kit from another company, projectors and HIDs turn up and they need bloody H7:mad:.

Ordered some a H7 HID kit witht the promise they'd be here on Saturday and they didn't show up, so i'l have to wait til next weekend to get them fitted as i'm busy working all week.:dapprove:

PS. Don't think i'l connect the angels.

Update

Fitted my projectors today (getting the bumper off was probobly the worst time of my life. Haynes manual gave it "1 spanner" for difficulty. b****cks to that!)

I didn't connect the angels

1. They are a horrible yellow colour
2. They are so f**king chavvy looking

Fitted a 6000k HID kit for the projector (dipped beam). Amazingly bright!

Also tinted the spots to match the black projectors, picture makes them look a bit s**t, but they are pretty smart looking.

Fitted new drivers side mirror, just need to get the cap painted.

While i was at it i got abit carried away again with the red/black theme, and painted the tow eye and the calipers all round. Also tidied up the hubs with some black hammerite and gave the springs a fresh coat of red paint, oh and removed the skanky old looking spare wheel and cage.

Lovley, ive got a filter the exact same as that i had on my 106 GTi (its mint)

Mine made 133bhp @ 6930rpm with it on it, you can have it for a small fee if you want :)

RED

Might get some new wheels or refurb these and get some decent tyres.

And i forgot, my cousin gave me a little sub that had been sat in his garage (as you can tell by the state of it). Adds a little bump to the Alpine components, not bad considering it was free.
May retrim it in alcantara when i get round to retrimming the headlining, and get a new carpet too!

Looks good mate, that sub looks like its had some hammer lol.

Really need an E-Tech strut brace, this is mine that i had, finishes the engine bay off a treat i think.

Also try using 600 wet and dry paper with Autosol polish at the same time.

Is that a private reg? Or has the car had an engine change at anypoint? As im sure that age of the 106 gti doesnt come with the EGR valve fitted? I may be wrong as i cant remember what age they came in.

Very tidy mate, vast improvement on the engine bay !

Just what I like to see, a car being 'de-chaved' and brought back to life :)

Not a private reg, April 2001 was its birthday.

Its the last type of GTi i believe as it has the airbagged seats and the airbag switch in the coin tray.

Car looks brilliant, I really really love these, you've got a bit of a thing for taking chav and making it wonderful, almost like a service to the world.

Like the black and red theme, simple, but don't go overboard

Great work mate! Love it!

I know Renclio on here and he's struggling to find decent 14" tyres! :(

He's wanting to keep it standard and not upgrade to 15's.

Update

Not that exciting for some of you.

Serviced the car myself, could not believe the state of the oil that came out when i drained it. f**king vile. The oil filter was a mess too, sadly must be a sign that the car hasn't had the best past.

Anyway, i flushed it twice and gave it some new oil & filter, now feels like a brand new Bentley!

Also, for the hatoorrzzzzzz, i've ordered a Raceland induction kit with Green filter, should be here Monday :D

This weekend, i've finally got round to / worked up courage to do some painting, when i got the car the drivers mirror was f**ked and i bought a lower spec mirror with textured cap, so after a while of prepping and painting it turned out like so:

Really pleased with it, OK it's not perfect but it'l do, and was my first time spraying.

Got bored and done the front badge too.

After getting abit confident with the old spray can i moved onto the headlining/grabhandles/lights/visors, REALLY happy with them..

Much better then the skanky beige.

Going to get some new number plates soon, make it look abit tidyer, also thinking of colourcoding the bumpstrips.

i really like this, considered anthro standard wheels? :)

I have yes, just could do with another set of wheels whilst these get sprayed, considering doing it myself not sure if i can be arsed though!

Either that or black, make it look pretty mean.

Looks quite nice...... Anthracite Wheels would look nice and subtle........Cyclone's or 15"s of the 206 GTi Wheels would also look nice on a 106 GTi

Edit - Si's Old 106 I think (Not sure if they are 15's or 16's though)

^ Thats lovely, pretty sure i've only seen Nimrods in 16's?

Update

Raceland and Green filter fitted, sounds amazing, feels a s**t load more responsive, and with the oil change starting to feel like a newer car.

Also for the eagle eyes reading this, you will notice i have a new battery, went to fit the Raceland and turns out the battery i bought the car with is too f**king big! Really pissed me off, managed to get one for £50 with a little discount from a local place after talking to a guy who has a Saxo VTS. Been an expensive week, but least the car isn't feeling that neglected anymore.

Most of you will be happy to see the K&N where it belongs.

Si's car was on 16s.

Might be worth cutting the lip off the 'dipped in' bit that's where the bonnet catch is, as that's supposed to sit in that gap. Although i've trimmed mine, and it still doesn't sit flush with the slam panel.

Might have to do that, such a tight fit, thats as close as i could get it. EGR valve didn't help either (might get rid of it soon, wanna know what the fuss is about!).

Don't even have it secured down properly yet, it wont even budge at the moment it's proper squeezed in.

what did you paint ya rocker cover with? ya feet, lol i had a titanium style 1 on mine looked good, apparently like rocking horse s**t. i basically done what you have, de chavved it so to speak.

It looks badly done and tacky like a mod the last owner would of done. Get the chrome 1 and would look a million times better with ya air filter matching.
