12 Grand for a car what would you get??

Im selling my v6, sadly. Fancy a change, not too sure why really, want to start doing track days, I dont realy trust myself in the vee, want something thats easier to drive on its limits, the vee is very unforgiving if you get it a bit wrong. I do love owning it, as you can imagine its a bit special!

Im thinking about changing to a trophy, realy like um, and they're ment to handle a little bit well too.:)

Just out of interest if you had £12,000 to spend on something with 4 wheels that would'nt cost any more to insure than a trophy what would you buy?? (Does'nt have to be renault)

206 gti are shite.

Get a sensible car and buy a car dedicated for track use if your serious about tracking. Then you can strip the b*****d and not worry quite as much about rolling it if you did.

Aye. If you've got a space to store it, get a dedicated track car and a trailer! Something like an old race series car for example.

I was thinking about doing that Chris^^, but would have to insure two cars then, and store two, tempted tho.

Focus RS?

I read a write-up in EVO mag this month, they did'nt think much to the focus rs, but thort the trophy was the tits...

The GTI180 is a good car. But is a heavy car! not ideal track equiped!

Thought about getting a Locost? or Super 7? dedicated track car? or you after more comfort than that?

Would love a super 7, but only for a second car.

If you have a second car as a track car, you dont need to pay running costs if its kept off road mate.

You'd need a trailer to tow it to trackday's, and then for insurance you'd take out track insurance on the day. No mot's, no tax... ah, bliss!

Sounds good but its storing the fecker. Any one rented a garage before??

  v6 mk2
i made the same move as you are contemplating, mk1 v6 to trophy and wouldnt go back!
(maybe for a mk2 v6 in a couple of years)

the trophy will tick all the boxes you want, plus you can take your mates out in the car!! oh and they handle just as well as every1 says!!

  Iceberg 172
there's a beaut of an rx7 track car on fduk forums. I think its on pistonheads too now but its like 6k.

That leaves 1k for a trailer and 5k for a 172 ph1 runabout ;)

Dont foget there will be a load of Clios going at the end of the year, you would be able to pick one up for about 5/6grand I bet

If you spend your cash on one car to do both road use and track, would you not be a bit worried about doing some damage to it on track resulting in it being off the road? I know I would so I'd rather go for two cars each dedicated to it's purpose.

For me, I'd probably go for a Caterham-type car and trailer for track use only plus a Golf TDI or similar for road use plus towing duties.

I'm lucky in having a garage to store a second car (Clio lives there at the moment ;)), no idea on costs of renting a garage I'm afraid.

Know what you're saying but a Blue or Black DC5 model still look the doggies

If you have to get one car that does it all for under 12K and is still under warranty, I don't think you can do much better than a Trophy. Although I am slightly biased.

If the warranty issue wasn't a factor though, I'd get a Trophy.

If you dont care about insurance go for something like an EVO.. i mean that would be immense on the limit and bloody fast :D

id buy a 206 gti 180 mate!! gorgeous car!!

Think you should drive a 206 180 and then a 172/182/Trophy (any will do) back to back and then see how you feel about the Pug!

  RB 200 Cup!
hmm 12k? prob get a supra TT and the rest on insurance - always loved em and they still good on the road - plus they are pretty quick

  Turbos.
Whatever you do, don't be a pussy and get something FWD.

Elise, VX200, Westfield are good candidates.

Supra and the like are too heavy, and don't handle especially well.

you french lovers need to try a bit of italian, we all know they make the most stylish and passionate cars.

my choice for 12k would be a beautiful red alfa romeo 156 GTA, with black and tan leather. It is the best sounding and looking V6 engine in prodution with 250 raging italian horses to propell you along.

i would spend about 11k on a 52/53plate example and spend another grand on intake, zaust and a remapp to really release the operatic tunes and take her upto about 270bhp+ easily.

so you can track her, take ur mates out in her and still have all the practicality of a family saloon.

as clarkson says ur not a true petrol head untill you've owned an alfa!!
