16v brake conversion for a 1.4....

  mk1 ph2 1.4
Looking at doing a front brake conversion on my 1.4 to willy disks, callipers and pads...how easy is it and what do i need to replace? Ive found some disks, callipers, pads and brake hoses for sale, is that everything needed??

And then what's involved in the change over?

I need to replace the front pads and the disks are quite worn so its a job needing doing anyway but will there be a considerable difference to say if i just put standard new pads and disks on, the price difference is probably like 30-40 buck so is it worth it? With the willy setup costing around 80-90 posted and the replacement disks and pads costing 40-50 for standard ones.

thanks

Discs/pads easy to change, caliper isn't really difficult but they are always seized so getting the hoses off the pipes could be a problem as if its too seized you might bugger the pipe like I did! Also you'll need to bleed both sides obv

You need the caliper bracket ie the bit th calipers bolt to and it bolts to the hub.

Its not a bad idea upgrading to them exspecaily for the little extra it will cost.

The only extra thing you'll have to do it undo the bake pipe lines and bleed the system but thats not a huge job to do bleeding the lines is a good idea anyway when chaging brake stuff.

Hmm thinking about it im just going to upgrade to some decent pads instead which will work out much cheaper and I mean unless im doing an engine conversion the willy brakes would be a bit of an overkill anyway, just there for the sake of it.

So, any recommendations on some good pads for a 1.4? And best place to buy?

cheers

Stock pads are more than enough. Bleed the fluid as well with some decient stuff.

If your doing a 172 conversion you'd want to use the 172 brakes as well anyway.

Hm not that much over an overkill, worth the upgrade and you can normally pick up all the stuff pretty cheap! All you need is the calipers/brackets and they normally go on here pretty often for around £25/30 then some good pads (some greenstuff pads going on ebay at the mo which are excellent pads) and you've got a pretty good setup there! Also you can pick up the discs from eurocarparts for around £26!
