16V Engine in 1.2

Got a 1.2 1996 with full bodykit and respray and styling sorted but need more power!! Anyone any ideas of engine transplants and people in north west who could do it?? Ideas of price?? Also struggling to get someone to lower car more!!

Wouldnt be too sure about putting a 16V engine into your 1.2 mate as you need a LOT of new/replacement parts so itll take it. Id think youd be better with a R5 Turbo engine in it or, alternatively an RSI or megane 1.6 conversion... All should be ample power wise....

i agree it could be a good idea to go r5 gtt, you say northwest. jus outside of crewe on the way to demon squeeks theres a place called skip browns. i have only heard good things bout them,

what parts would a 1.2 mk1 need to do a 16v conversion?aprt from th obvious engine, ecu gearbox n shafts!big brakes, uprated suspension etc good idea but what is actually nescessary?

megane 1.6 sounds good, ive heard a lot about GTT transplants, but arent most R5 engines now nakered, or high milage??

a 16v engine would fit in easy enough but you would all the running gear(inc rear axle but get an rsi one because there designed to fit clios with normal rear arches,16vs are flared),everything from under the bonnet, subframe+steering, exhaust and all brakes/suspension.if you are going to do it you could do with getting a complete car(eg,mot failure or accident damaged)then you will have everything you possibly need.

how hard would a megane 1.6 engine be to fit?just straight in with megane engine, ecu, gearbox n drive shafts?
pretty easy due to the 1.6 8 valve is a very similiar in design to the 1.4.your 1.4 gearbox may even fit on it.the main difference is the engine mounts but you can get around that easy enough. You will have to sort the immobiliser out though(a 1.6 megane engine has an ecu which is part of the immobiliser system but im sure somebody will now how to disable it).contact the firm in the above post theyve got round it.
