16v Head and Megane Bottom End Info

Ok, its pretty apparent that the chances of me finding a salvagable williams engine in aberdeen are pretty slim so am looking for the next best thing!

Ive heard that some people have fitted a megane bottom end to a 16v head and i want some info on this: what can i use from my existing setup and what else will i need to purchase? I assume the ECU will need to be changed (or possibly just rechipped) but what about my cams etc? Can the be kept?

Also, figures of about 20 bhp and a shedload more torque have been banded about - is this realistic and how willy-like would it be on the road?

Thanks for any help!

Getting mine done as we speak mate. Shold be able to answer most questions for you.

ECU needs a 1.8/2.0 chip £175 odd from hill power.

The power gains should be very good. Quicker than a standard willy. bout 155bhp to 165.

Cams can stay the same, or u can up grade for extra power.

Cheers!

I take it its just a case of getting a megane bottom end and bolting it straight in?

I was wondering if there would be problems with this combination though - mainly because i think the 16v cam setup is designed for peak power at higher revs - mating it to a 2ltr bottom end that shouldnt be reved as high would surely have reliablity issues?

The cams are not as wild in the 16v head and it has smaller inlet valves(shouldnt make to much of a difference). It will not rev as high due to the bottom end with increased bore and stroke. 7k max should be the new redline. A good idea to have the head worked on when doing the conversion as it will yeild better gains.

This is my plan for next summer.

I hope not!!

It is as straight forward as bolting it on. Need the megane starter and the 16v flywheel tho.

Yeah you can, or ur 16v one or a williams one oreven a r19 one if u really wanna.

Not sure what the best box would be tho? Dont know what the ratios are like.

Theres a full 56K Willy 3 engine n gear box at a scrappy where i got mine from about 3 weeks ago!!

It had fire damage so the plastics n hoses will obviously need replacing but im sure he said he wanted £550 + VAT!! Comes with ECU n LOOM (or whats left of it)!!

Current box is fine, current head is fine, current cams are fine.....just bolt them together and use the 16V flywheel.
