16v HOT oil temp

  ValverInBits
Just spoke to a mate who said his valver oil temp never really went above 100 degrees. Mine rests up at 155 degrees once fully warm doing about 4krpm on the motorway.
Why am a so darn hot?

P.S. Just changed the oil and filter.

Anything over 120 and your oil unless its racing like stuff its cooking and needs to be changed.

You did use the correct filter as some palces sell the wrong filter which whilst it first the Clio can be a restriction on the system.

Yeah it could be the filter!
The one i got given by my local parts shop for the car was too big to squeeze between the radiator and the sump so I took it back and changed it for the same one i took off, which is a smaller sized filter.
How do you get the standard sized filter in there? It will fit once its in the right place it's just getting it in there. I need to remove my radiator don't i surely?

You need to remove radiator to get at it yes. Thats how I did anyway, not sure if there is an easier way to do it.

What oil you using tho? If the oil is not right or not good stuff will run very hot.

Quantum from gsf is quite good and reasonably priced. I use Mobil 1 and my temps never go over 50, even on m'way. Castrol GTX is shite and runs very hot.

No need to remove the radiator just a bit of a pain trying to chnage it you can use the bigger one though.

Thanks, I'll get the correct filter on there.
This has to be the best forum ever. Question at 9pm, sorted by 10pm

Sure oil filter isn't your problem

I'm chasing a similar problem, never let oil go over 120 deg, sat at 70 on motorway its at about 120 deg.

Has this engine in another car and it was fine, brought this valver and that ran hot oil temps, swapped engines and still same problem, heater matrix was blocked so thought it mgiht be that, swapped it and it aint' done f**k all, got a rad i might change tomorrow, apart from that the only other thing thats orignal on the new car and not been repkaced or imported from old car wth engine are the gauges.

Can't believe it gets to 155 deg without totally f**king your engine, or tbh that you actually allow it to get that high.

Nyk, how the f**k can your car sit at 50 deg oil temp?!?!?!?

Mine never even did that with silkoine race oil

No need to take the rad off for filter change...get a genuine renault one imo can't go wrong just do it hand tight. I find it hard to believe you can get the oil to 155 lol thats off the gauge!

Use a FRAM filter, expensive at £11 but it has a nut on the top to aid removing it, easier than trying to get your hand in there to undo it by hand, or if you are feeling weak a filter removal tool

Mine idles at 100 once fully warmed up, when thrashing it she goes up to about 120.. seems pretty normal from the other valvers i've seen.

It has to be my gauge!
Changed oil filter and oil for the correct one but noticed before starting that with a completely cold engine and oil that had never been run before my oil temp gauge reads 60ish. If that is how much its over by then my car runs 95 degrees which is fine!
Anyone selling an oil temp gauge?

Take it it's reading at the bottom (40 degress) when cold?

How long does it take to make it start moving upwards compared to your coolant temp?

Sounds like a dodgy gauge or reading somehow, can't believe you could even get it that hot!
