16v V. 106 GTi V. VTS





last night at the races i raced these cars and beat them. I have stiffened up my suspension to max setting and as a result i could litteraly fly off the line. i was dropping the clutch at around 5k with little wheelspin. i would say i beat the VTS more convincingly as the 106 seemed to pull a little on me after the initial flying start. i have raced the same 106 before and lost to it(only just!) they both have induction kit and exhaust combos, but to be fair my flying starts left many quaking in there boots and was quite unfair over a very short racing distance as the above mentioned cars didnt have enough road to show if they could gain on me after the start. there was also a 380 BHP scort cossie that was just silly. it beat me mates coupe turbo like the coupe was stood still. there will be videos of the races about soon as one of Adis mates is sorting it out. :)
 


giving it enough! just goes to prove how much its down to the driver and the varying french power outputs. still would not put mine against craggys, that either seems like its a VERY hot one or he is a sh*t hot starter? having said that i fancy myself as a bit of a drag racer now!

i would fancy your chances too mate! the way you beat Adis old engine anywya! well the williams doesnt go in til April 5th so try and come down on a thursday b4 then! also forgot to mention there was a standard VTS with 500 miles on it that was slapping all other VTSs and the 106, it beat the LAD motorsport one last week, havent had a chance to race it YET but will let you all know the results!

yeh i must say im very tempted by coilovers or certainly uprated rear dampers are on my list cos clean16v beat me off the line easily but he cheated and went before me lol but i still stood there wheelspinnin

the racin is a bit unfair as most slower cars can get maximum traction just bootin it full throttle down the strip whereas i hav to be careful or mucho wheelspin results and u can only get upto 45 ish before getin on the brakes good for practisin ur starts though

ive got 1 vid and its not too good its really dark and fuzzy
 


lol, didnt want to mention our race! i got a little excited and droped clutch before the guy dropped his arms! oh well, you cant complain with a reaction time of -1 sec!

I have video evidence (seen by a few people at rr day) of an organised race with a 106gti modded with chip,filter,zorst.

It beats me to 60 by a cars length then i had to let off as i was touching his bumper everytime to about 120, then he moved over and i was side by side then passsing at 130. DId it many times and the results were the same.

So a standard one should be no probs at all.

My car was completely standard at the time.
 


to be honest, as i already mentioned!, the race with the 106 was not very convincing because my launches are pretty much spot on giving the "opposition" no real chance over such a short distance, the 106 did seem to gain a little going into 2nd and he has previously beat me, so possibly if we swapped cars i would beat him? or if he had stiff suspension he would get equal launch to me and beat me. i am very aware of how quick 106GTIs are so dont take offence adz33!
 


They are quick off the mark but i know that Clio 16v are quicker than them top end as i have heard. Suppose it does depend on the start and the driver, all of our cars are quick:)
 


all these VTS and 106s have PUSHED me into getting my willy engine! i really REALLY hate to admit it but it is far too close to call between VTS/16V/GTI, and over 0-60 it seems(in standard trim anyway) that the 16v is slowest:(
