16v Water Temp

Sat in tescos car park the other night for about 10mins on tick-over and had steam pouring out bonnet, water was baoiling in header tank. Going down M6 towards Bham, got stuck in traffic and the temp was right up, considered pulling off and letting it cool, its ok when cars moving but when it is stopped or stop-start it gets well hot!

Any ideas what it is or is it just normal?

Not normal! getting hot at standstill is but steam and boiling water isnt have u checked that the fan is coming on!

Yeah as normal, aint done it b4, just started, could it be a crap coolent?

Could be or too weak a mix (i.e not enough coolant too much water!)

could be your thermo sticking........

If its broke it wont fully open meaning u get limited flow to the rad, enough to keep cool, but it will overheat.

Just a thought.

my fan went and mine was doing this, Sh*t myself in traffic

it wont be anything to do with the antifreeze/water content mix- as long as their is enough in there (at max). it will be either a thermostat or fan switch!

you can check the thermostat by removing and placing in a kettle ( dont let your mum/bird catch ya as they get proper pissed!!!) with a thermometer and checking when and if at what temp the thermostat opens--you can see the middle moving!!

the fan should cut in as the temp just start to go slighlty over half way!
