172 / 182 / 172cup

hi, i know this might have already been answered, but is there a genuine 10ps difference between the 172 and 182, and does the claimed difference in power actually make a difference? im trying to decide between the 3 in the title, and just not sure if a 182 is worth the extra money seen as 172s are going so cheap.

any comments would be appreciated thanks.

The handling of the 182 has been made better and they reduced the weight by removing the spare in the 182 compaired to the Mk2 172.

Thers about 10hp difference probably but some engines are better than others.

Id personaly choice between a Mk1 172 for £4~5k or a Trophy I think for £13k. I think Id end up going for the Mk1 though and spend some money on the car ie throttle bodies and coilovers.

hmmm... well ive got about 9k to spend, so it would either be a cheap 182, or a 172 (probably not a cup) and save myself some money. What you all think?

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..

..save yourself some money, get a mk2 172, i take it you want the toys? handling is easily sorted with some springs or coilovers, replace the spare with some tyreweld and if your really bothered about the "10bhp" swap the 172 manifold for a 182 one, or wait 6months as the value drops like a whores drawers with these cars.

LOL! you mean 182s values drop? its already happening isnt it. i do like certain things about the new 182s like the recaros, but at the end of the day you have to make a compromise dont you.

anyone elses opinion?
If youve got 9k and dont want ti modified for track days etc then get a Mk1 or early Mk2 172 (if you prefere the mk2 look as some people do) for 4~6k and stick the rest of the money in the bank.

hi Hector. I am thinking along the same lines as you.. after a bit of weighing up.. and seeing 182s going for low prices is an easy choice...

Heres a Blue 182 for £8750!! and only 13k miles... bargain... shames I dont need one yet.. just shows how much they are coming down already...its a buyers market.. have fun deciding
