172/182 TOP Engine Mounts (Uprated)

I have ask loads of people about this and the only person who has said they have got them is Tom. I am awaiting details but none as of yet....

Who apart from Renaultsport do uprated mounts (NOT THE K-TEC BOTTOM ONE). I mean the two top ones - under the battery and the one of the opposite side. Its the worst thing i dislike about the car, i have had them change 3 times but its always the same. Currently i can rock the engine forward and backwards..!

Has anyone got spare ones as i will get the working drawn up by on the the CAD boys and get something made up.

To all the tuners out there if anyone gets to market on this successfully then they would make a killing...!!!!!!!!!!

The gauntlet is thrown down......

I had a company offer to make them for me but they wanted a set to copy and about £400 for the priviledge...

I will get them made at work if i can get some to borrow... just need to understand what need to be uprated etc as its on the rubber bits not the ali mount itself.

Rather than use rubber I think you need to use a stiffer substance like Poly...

Probably will be poly, its the shore (not sure on spelling) rating that counts. Anyways just need some mounts and will get it done..!

It wont be expensive.....

Just had mine done but I would be interested in new ones if they were the right price.

Mike@Rentech may still have all my old mounts as he was looking at doing the same in the future but was going to wait until he had the cash to do it.

Give him a shout.

i'm getting the banging in 1st etc...... does anybody know exactly which mount is at fault??!!

and has anyone brought the lower dogbone mount from k-tec?

if so whats the thought on it?

Buy a new top mount then get some poly uretane or other similar hard rubbers and where the normal rubber mold should be but the uretance.

  Mr2 Roadster
You need to change them all. I did it, fixed it for about 50 miles!

I'm now looking at a few other things as well.

I have an idea that when they go, that the exhaust gets bent and then continues to knock on the subframe. I'm going to have the exhaust refitted tomorrow and bent away from the beam to see if that fixes it...

Its better than the stock one but there a bit more vibration in the car at idle.

Depending how bad it it might be badly adjusted mounted you need to ensure the mounts are ll adjusted as the engine moves over time and abuse.

hmmmm that rings a bell, i've only noticed it since i've had a new steering rack fitted back in november.... i would imagine the rear mount would have to be moved??

Just get a pair of old ones.... compress the metal housing so that it's just touching the rubber.

Job done.

No need for poly ones IMO - mine have done 22k since my mini-mod, and the rubber hasn't gone down.

All 3 mount are needed to be uprated. I have the k-tec mount and it just put load on the other mounts and they fail sooner.

Any spare mounts and will get some made for everyone as non of the tuners seem to be up for it..!

There are four:

The top one on the right.
The Dogbone at the bottom.
The Gearbox one under the battery.
The lower Gearbox, subframe mount, under the gearbox.

You only had the car 4 month and you broke it all ready LOL :)

Had some gearbox problems, the monkeys you had fix it didn't screw it in properly and and it caused me some serious problems. The damn thing newar fell out and damaged all the mounts. When I spoke to them they were not very helpful. I had to have the mounting points fabricated until I can source a new gearbox. I wouldn't use that garage ever again!

Since the rubber inserts in the top mounts can be changed you just need that part to be made in a mold out of a stiffer material.
I'm no production cost enginner (or whover does that sort of stuff) but I'm sure it wouldn't be that much.

S*it That not good news mate they had the car for about 6 Weeks to : ( and gave me that fecking ££££ bill to . Dont think i will be using that grage again .

Does clamping that and bending it not multipy the movement on the other mounts, especially the gearbox under the battery mount?

  Clio 197
Yup.. I pinched it together.

I didn't leave the clamp on.

It's quite solid now... (I can't get it to move).

Don't worry about it not compressing evenly on both sides, as the actual mount can slide backwards/forwards a bit if need-be.

Err.. I can feel a fair amount of vibration at idle (ever since changing the ktec mounts), but the gearknob is better now.

  Mr2 Roadster
Thinking about it, rather than bend it I would have put some exhaust rubber either side of the mount in the frame.

  Clio 197
Nothing's come loose, or fallen-off in 12k so far (22k top mount, 12k lower engine bushes).

I've not removed all movement (there still is a tiny bit), but most of it's gone.

with the k-tec mount do you gat the ally part of the mount or just the bushes?

  Mr2 Roadster
My main movement now is in the Gearbox/under battery one. Only done 300 motorway miles on it since it was changed.

  Clio 197
Just the bushes (not the dog bone).

The bits that come out have an ally housing tho (if that's what you mean).

PS off to bed now... zzzZZZZzzzzZZZZ early start.

  Mr2 Roadster
Hey, I have placed some off cuts of rubber exhaust mounts that I cut to fit in there and the car is perfect this afternoon!

It has a tendancy to try and wiggle them out but I have a plan involving greasing the metalside so it can move and sticking it to the mount side, if that makes sense. For once though I'm happy with the car and the gear shift is more solid now!
