172 4k Exhaust rattle

I've got the common 4k exhaust rattle on my 172. Its been there ever since i've had the car, but i'd really like to sort it out as it gets on my nerves at times, especially on motorways when its almost constant.

So, what part of the exhaust is it that usually causes this? I've had a couple of local exhaust places look at it, but they say that everything is fine, so i think im just going to have to go for it and replace whatever it is that causes it..... but what part needs replacing?

Center section is the trouble maker. It cost around £400 from Renault!
(managed to get it done under warranty after severe negotiations)

Happened to mine about 3 weeks ago. At first i tohught it was the heatshielding, but on me inspecting this it turned out not to be the case. It was actually one of the manifold bolts that was causing the rattling, just after the manifold there is a joint which meets the cat, there you will see two spring loaded bolts which move dynamically as the exhaust moves, the left one (if looking from back of car towards front) was basically doing nothing and on revving was rattling around like hell.

That would be the first place i'd look.

I had this on mine, it was something that had come loose inside the silencer on the center section, it was doing my head in that much i removed it, drilled a hole through the silencer and put a bolt through it and nipped it up. job sorted but i doubt its doing much good for the performance.

Was centre section failure on mine. Twice!!

I went for a Custom jobbie in the end. A Ktec stealth seems a popular replacement in you don't want a visible tailpipe and as it's it's stainless has a lifetime warranty.
