172 alloys on 1.2 campus rubbing

  Clio 200 LY/SV650S
Anyone find the 172 wheels rubbing on the rear arch liners? Had a friend in the back today while driving, hes only a light bugger round 9 stone, but going round a roundabout and heard a hell of a noise, got out and looked to see the inside of the tyres are actually rubbing inside the arch liners at the back.
Cant actually put my fingers behind the wheel that close.
Wheels are 205/50/15 i think off top of my head, car not lowered.
Would spacers solve this?

That sounds wierd, mine is lowered on 17s and with 2 fat people in the back it is fine! Maybe lower profile tyres would help.

Not lower profile tyres but putting 195 width tyres on would solve this. Mine don't rub at all lowered 60mm.

Got low profiles on which is strange, the car was a cat d write off, hit in the back, presuming its still knocked forward the bumper causing it to rub maybe?

If it's fairly new and was written off by being in a rear end shunt then there's a good chance it was majorly f*cked and not properly straightened back out again.

My 17s rubbed, I just took the arch-liners off. Not recommended though so just get some 5mm spacers :)

My little 1.2 Clio has 17'' alloys bolted on to it and they don't rub with plenty of room in the arches to spare. When I turn the wheel the closest it comes to the front skirt is about 2cm but the rear wheels have buckets of room. Sounds really odd that they would rub like Stewart said.

Thats what I'm going with to be honest, having a close look you can see that something doesnt seem too right.
Will take some pictures tomorrow to give you all a idea if interested.

I think the remedy is going to be 5mm/10mm spacers with possibly 195's on. :(

The offset on 172 alloys is different and they are wider so rather than sticking out more than originals they stick in more so just get some spacers. I've got 15mm spacers all round on mine.

Mines on 195/45/16 standard springs and they are fine on the back, I had to put 5mm spacers on the front though.
