Get yourself to Brakes international, Ive just replaced the front pads and disks on my Cup at a cost of £69.85 inc VAT, it will take you 1 hour to replace them, only thing you need to watch out for is pushing the brake piston back.

poundrick, thanks matey! but ive just booked it into a place near slough, quoted £60 inc VAT. Where are Brakes Int based mate? Also, do you mean they/the mechanic has to push the brake piston back? what happens if they dont (impacto??)

how many miles did you get out of a set of pads??

mines due a service and I dont know if Im gonna need some.....I do need new tyres, so Im not sure if they need doing or its just the tyres being almost slicks thats the problem!!

hiya Viv!

22,000 miles out of the pads. My dad did warn me they only had 5k left....erm, 5,000 miles ago. Some high speed braking yesterday resulted in not much slowing, but a nasty grinding noise. The discs seem ok, not scored, so hopefully I might get away with pads...well see!

The grinding noise you hear initially is where the edge of the disk (the rusty lip) is catching on the outer metal part of the pad where the little clips are - so the braking surface of the disk will be fine (dont let them rip you off!!!!!! - demand to see the pads!!!!!!!) This happened on mine - I changed them myself. (If you look at the lip on the edge of the disk through the wheel - you should be able to see where the rust is being worn away)

Renault front pads cost me £50 inc and that was without fitting.

Ive just been for some new tyres and the blokeys recon Ive got about 4k left on the brake pads....the garage next door said that theyd change them for £20 plus the cost of the pads! :)

Ive done 22.5k (over estimated above!)
