172 brakes underpowered? :-s

  Roadster Coupe
I drove my gf's 2003 clio bilabong the other day, the brakes on that feel alot more powerful than my ph2 172. Its only got drums at the back of her car! how powerful should my brakes be compared to a 1.2 clio? I also fitted brembo max discs and got green stuff pads all round on my car.

I run the same setup

However add some braided lines with HT fluid.

Once warm, they are perfect.

whats it lacking stopping effort or has it just got more pedal travel, 'cos eka's 1.2 has less pedal travel than my 172. but thats 'cos i pulled her rear brakes up when she got it

  Roadster Coupe
well her pedals travel more but the brakes feel alot more more powerful. only gotta touch her brakes a bit and the car stops. in mine i gotta push harder to get the same effect. should b my car which should hav stronger brakes. lol

try, goodrich hoses and a fluid change, also make sure your pads are seated well and slide freely

  Roadster Coupe
i bought hoses but they wouldnt fit they just leaked no matter how tight i did them up. i aint long changed the brake fluid, i put some of that castrol super dot 4 stuff in.

the problem is your green stuff pads,IMHO they are shite, had them on my saph coz escort rs turbo and recently my elise s2 there's just no bite to em!!

  53 Clio's & counting
agreed ^^^^^^^^ the only car iv had that they have worked on way my last mini

switch to pagid 1144s they were great

or std ren stuff, evo tested the ph1 100-0 in 3.99 secs....

oh and decent tyres too

  Megane coupe 1.6 16v
^^ I agree.

I had them and took them out within a week, standard renault ones were loads better. This was on KTR Fast road disks.

Might hav 2 put my standard ren 1's in then. and considering there suppposed 2 b dust less, i gotta clean my wheels every week. whats the brake dust like compared to other uprated brake pads?

  Carrera 4S. Clio 172. M5
Bigger servo on the cooking car, just makes them easier for the girlie's, and they feel more powerful, but three fast stops and it will be fade all the way.

172 brakes need more effort but will keep stopping.

  clio sport 172 ph2
green stuff say "less dust" it should say no dust but no bloody breaking!! absolutely rubbish!

  ex Clio 172 owner :(
Why do braided hoses mean better brakes?

Is it something along the lines of they won't expand like normal hoses and therefore allow more force to travel through pipe? Just guessing.

I need to change my fluid soon and may invest in new hoses.

And I agree. Greenstuff suck. I took mine out after a couple of weeks in my old VTS.

you sure the pads you have put in arent seized in the carrier or anything daft? they werent tight when you put them in?

  Clio 1.8 16v
I know it's topical, but why not try some of our lovely new CARBONE LORRAINE's! EBC Compounds seem to need plenty of warming up before a reassuring pedal takes place, up the compound and the bite comes in at lower temperatures and remains right the way through. Oddly enough my G/F has a Clio2 1.2 16v and her brakes are dynamite, for about the first 10 miles, then they do quickly drop off when pushed (she remains unaware of this though!).
