172 Cup Advice

After my previous post about looking to buy a 182 cup, people recommended i go for a 172 cup instead as was looking to use it as a trackday car. I have found one which is almost due a cambelt change and the garage i am looking to buy it from are will to do this as part of the cost. On the 172 Cup is it just the cambelt and water pump they need to do? Also having read other posts about some garages not having the tools to do does a 172 Cup need to be taken to a specialist really?

Ok garage seemed to think they were fine to do it. Don't think it has been done, i will tell them this needs doing as well. Will probably end up taking it somewhere local once i get the car to check it has been done properly.

Garages will do the cambelt with low quality parts as it will be eatting into their profit. I would get the money for a cambelt replacement taken of the car and get someone I know to do it. I done this when I got my cup, knocked £300 off the car price and Danny @ 519 automotive done the belt.

End of the day the cambelt will make or break your car dont risk it. Hear some horror stories on here.

think the cambelt was about £250, but he advised my dephaser didnt need doing.

Thanks, i will get in contact with the garage, i will probably end up taking it there to get them to check it over as not too far from where i live.

Check the shocks too, depending on the mileage they could be past their best and in need of a freshen up

yeah shocks seem fine, brake discs and pads a little low but with me turning it into a trackday car would be looking to replace shocks and brake discs/pads. Anyone else recommend any garages near northampton to do my cambelt? Had a look at 519automative and thought it would be closer than it was , its almost an hour away.

The two i can see near me are Northampton Motorsport and RGS Motorsport. Anyone ever used any of these two before

Thats enough for me to go there if you drove from wales!! I need piece of mind and don't want to take it on the track and the cambelt snaps!! Would be gutted to say the least!

Trust me, the car pulled so much better after he did the timing. As the last garage had done it wrong therefore it wasn't producing the power it was meant to!

I will get the car then book it in there for piece of mind, would rather spend 2 hours going there and back then thousands on a engine rebuild.
