172 CUP alarm LED

I'm a bit confused about something

There's a little red LED near the gearstick on the center console - doesn't look factory fit. Cables seems to go up behind the dash and connect to the hazard light or something

When I press the hazard lights it flashes once. Other than that it seems to do nothing. Doesn't seem to flash when the alarm is set.. Bit confused?

Is it standard fitment or has someone added it in?
If it's standard - what's it supposed to do?

iirc it should flash every few seconds when the alarm is armed, get a pic and we'll be able to see if it looks the same as the standard ones

i take it you've got a standard alarm on it as far as you know ?

the only 172's that didnt come with that led light were imports as far as i know but it could have just had an aftermarket alarm at some point ?

im pretty sure mine has one too, f**k knows what for though. Finally got one then :) top man

Yeah mate - I'll pop over one night if you're about - you can have a look over it

Needs some tidying up - but well happy so far

Yeah I've just sat reading all the search results and looking at pics - it is the standard "coba aftermarket" 172 alarm

I've just NEVER seen that light flash lol

I nearly cut it out today because I thought someone had bodged it in - there's wires taped onto the hazard lights wiring and stuff. But I guess if it's an aftermarket job thats probably why it looks a bit rough

Hrmm i've been out a few times to look and I'm fairly sure this alarm LED never flashes

Does that mean my alarm is faulty?

Try it and find out.

Leave the window down and lock it, stick your hand in and wave it about. Providing you have the ultrasonic sensors. Alarm should go off. Mine beeps 3 times at first and then goes off. Another thing you could try is leave the door open, and lock it. It should beep like mad :D

I have the exact same led as you and i also thought it was an aftermarket job when i bought the my cup. Had a look through the cars history and turns out it was a factory fitted cat 1 system. So im presuming you have the same device.

Nice to see you bought a cup. Have fun :approve:

That had just come unclipped - so I've taped it back together

I would have thought that if the door or bonnet sensors weren't working it would just beep to tell you it couldn't arm

It never beeps, the led never flashes or anything :(

I'm wondering whether to try to get a siren and control box from a 172 cup being broken and try swapping them over? I've heard the control box is under the passenger airbag..

Or I guess I could just save up and have the whole lot removed and replaced with a clifford or something

No fella thats just the siren, Most alarms are modular nowadays, The main control unit is normally strapped to the dash rail under the passenger airbag.

Try looking up from the fuse box and look for a loom thats wrapped up different to the cars loom, Hopefully you should find an inline fuse. also look for an earthing ring thats maybe came loose.

It will be tight though, Maybe easier stripping out the dash top and airbag.

Hrmmm I read the installation instructions on here and it seems to get its power from something called a UCH?? (not sure what that is - but i'm assuming its the central locking module which picks up the radio signal from the key)

I'm assuming my UCH isn't knackered because central locking and everything works - lights flash etc.. Just the alarm doesn't work

I've now bought a new renault alarm from ebay which seems to match mine - so going to try swapping the siren/alarm bit over

I'm quite confused as to why the alarm LED flashes once when I press the hazard light switch though lol

Ah! if this is the same alarm that on yours then it's a compact version ( All built in ) But again it should be fused. Living where it does water may have got into it and killed it.

The UCH is the body control module of the car, Most info about the car is processed here and this is where the alarm is hooked in and gets it's information

The hazard thing maybe just a fluke and is the indicator flash current being fed through the alarm to the LED.

Hard to tell without seeing it. It may have been played about with
