172 & Cup brakes

I understand the Cup uses Laguna brakes (front and rear or just front?), is this just discs and calipers or is there more to it? Do the laguna brakes reduce or add to weight? Also how big are the discs on both the Cup and 172.

Cheers

-Rob

Ive managed to find the cups:

Brakes Front
280mm vented discs and calipers

Brakes Rear
228mm vented discs and calipers

Lots of tasty looking ones in the new Demon Tweeks brochure, including discs made of a blue coloured alloy that would look stunning on a Cup. Ill have a look when I get home.

I thought we settled this AGES ago.

I told people that the 172/cup/megane coupe/cabrio have the same calipers. Found out through the part #.

What DID confuse was when i also said that the cupRacers used the laguna V6 brakes as they ALSO used the laguna front struts and a heavily modifed front subframe. Later, i mentioned that the cliocup (which the team which runs a cup racer got hold of) told me that he was surprised to find that they also ran the Lag front brakes.

Which is why i wanted somebody or people to copar a cup and cup when they next met. But its without a doubt now, they all use the same.

as for lightest brakes........cerametallic or carbon compounds......but they wont be available for clios or most cars.

steel is about as light as you can get, without undue wear and the right CoF.

None of the manufacturers seem to want to tell you how much their discs weigh. But the really cool blue ones are Mintex C-Tech. The pads that go with them are allegedly dust-free.

Blue discs!!??

where this?

C-Tech pads are mintex 1144.....great...but deffo NOT dust free, ill show you my wheels...they are supposedly silver..lol

Just becausee the 172 has abs and the cup hasnt doesnt mean they have different discs on them. You can have exactly the same setup without abs.

So the cup racer brakes arent completey track biased and can be used on the road then? Do you know if this set up is lighter than on the road Cups?

I thought standard road car brakes disks were made of Iron due to its thermal / friction properties etc where as steel while being lighter wasnt up to the job

its not a pure iron.......

Rob, not fully track, but brake pad compound wont suit the rd...and theya re laguna struts with laguna brakes.... alot of effort for little gain. Get teh brembo kit for the megane etc etc....

Carlouk - i was being sarcastic......i know!

mike....BLUE DISCS! surely it wears off in 2 mins???

Im not looking for better performance per se, priority is saving weight but thanks all the same.

Think youre right there Ben, a lot of discs give a purpley/blue hue which wears off.
