172 cup & (Engine) Tuning

Alright chums & "chummets", I have been told that the RS motors aren't the easiest nor the cheapest to tune.

Just as a heads up, pound for pound what do you think the best engine mods are for the 172 cup & what kind of bhp & improvements would I be looking at with them without spend stupid stupid money.

Cheers Adam

Concentrate on suspension/brakes.

You won't see big gains without putting in decent money.

I plan to do the brakes & susp anyway, but that's all much of a muchness I feel, I.E the same with everything pretty much..

I wasn't thinking of going mad, perhaps Panel filter-exhaust-map, not a lot to be had from that set up then!?

  Stripped yozza'd cup
The only things that are worth doing is matched inlets, remap. Jms do a package which includes these and a v6 airbox. You won't get a huge amount of peak power gain but much more bottom end and mid range. More useable power.

After that, the only way for power is turbo / supercharger / itb's or jms rs2 inlet.

  RS2'ed 172 Cup
172 Cup all it needs is -

Brakes - Suggested Brembo HC Discs with DS2500 Pads, Braded Lines and some nice Fluid

Suspension - Very capable on Standard Set up, so you 'Could' Sling some Eibach Sportline Springs with Standard Shocks, or as i did put on a decent set of Coilovers, I personally Run KW V2's. Also Suspension wise would recommend (Probably the nest thing I have done to my Cup) Fitting a Rear ARB (Anti Roll Bar) and a set of Solid Top Mounts.

Engine - As above its a bit of a Fruitless exercise trying to get power from the engine, I have done a few bits (Angel Works Matched inlets, Induction Kit, 182 Manifold and K-Tec Supersport Exhaust and Basic RS Tuner 98RON Map) and TBH have seen some power increase (Was 168BHP Standard and with all of the above its only bumped it to 175BHP with a increase in Torque as well), but relative to the costs, its not really worth it! (That said as i am terrible at spending to much on things I have just blown a load more Wedge on the RS2 Inlet)

Cheers guy's, Seems like my biggest decision will be to strip or not to strip then! Back seats in my current car barely ever get used & when they do they just get in the way :slap:
