172 Cup insured as a 'Cup'!!

  A4 Avant & A3
I have just gone through the insurance renewal procees on my car.
Last year they didn't have a 172 'cup' on the system so they assured me it was the same as a 172 'sport'
This year i called them up (them being privilege) and cancelled my insurance (as it's a few quid cheaper online & £25 less excess!)
The woman on the phone actually changed the price & excess for me & gave me free guaranteed loan car aswell which was nice. So cost £413.70 all together (full comp, ncb protect etc)

I then thought i'd ask about the 'cup' situation again.. she looked it up & guess what.. They have it now & it's a higher insurance group according to them..
So a 'cup' is another £11 a year god damn it.. wish i'd never asked now!

It's a good job you did ask. Whether through their ignorance or not if it's insured as a normal 172 and you need to claim they'd soon tell you to do one.

its b****cks isnt it. used to always have problems explaining my rover 220 and my dads 1.8 vvc coupe, which bizarrely has more bhp, less weight and yet is a lower insurance group :S go figure!

^^ yep thats what i thought.. feel a lot better now.. as i've never been able to get a insurance doc with 172 cup on it.. despite phoning & asking a few times & being told it's classed as the same thing. (obviously it isn't!)

but power and weight arent the only ways in which insruance is calculated, number of incidents reported and servicing costs, emissions count also i think CMIIW
