172/cup LSD

Ive tried before to gauge interest in a group buy of LSDs for the 172/cup from quiafe before without much success. From speaking to them last time i think they wanted around 20 orders before they would make a 172 LSD. Given that there are now alot more member of this forum than last time i asked I thought I would try again.

your thoughts please

JUST GOT ONE FOR MY 16V. BERNIE AT CPS SORTED FOR ME ON 01582 840008 AND DEMON TWEEKS ARE STOCKING THEM. ALSO THE RALLY CARS ALREADY RUN THEM SO SOME ONES MAKING THEM . ALSO TRY STEVE WARBY ON 077682285257

Hmmmm ok bit more than I was expecting - bugger... ok who else can be tried? must be someone around who a) can get hold of lsds, and b) can fit them for something under £1k, if I can find that Ill somehow find the money and do it, I aint wanting to go down the traction control route cos that kills off power too, and all it really needs is an lsd - a 1.5 ratio would be good.

ps just called gripper and the LSD they have is for R5GTTs and earlier clios like the williams. Basically its designed for a press fit crown wheel and I dont know if thats compatible with a cup/172. Any views?

Had a short chat with a Frenchman at sadev, and he said they do have an LSD that would fit the standard 5 speed H box, but he would not recommend doing that as he has concerns that the gears inside the box may not be up to handling a locking LSD. he reckons that it would definitely not be a good idea to try that on a modified car producing even higher torque than standard. So it sounds like there could be a solution involving the Sadev LSD but involving a rebuild of the std gearbox. costs for that would be about Euro1800 + labour. There is also another option to go for an entire replacement H box with selectable ratios etc but for Euro5900 + labour.

My question to the mechanically minded regards Sadevs comments about the standard synchro box gears not being able to withstand operation with an LSD. That would be the case irrespective where the LSD came from, i.e. Quaife, Gripper etc.

Comments?

I assume so, they should have the most experience with it.

And as std the box synchos arent the strongest.

Spoke to them again a few mins back. They reckon they have a solution and are sending me some info by email. Ill put the info on here when I get it.
