172 Cup or Trophy

  182 Trophy
Hi There

Im in the market to buy a Clio RS in the next month and really fancy a trophy BUT im not sure if its really worth the extra money.

For people who have driven both what did you think ? Is the trophy worth the extra 3/3.5 K

Also is it fairley easy to get power out of the 182s/172s

I will be coming from a Fiesta Zetec S , have previousley owned a Racing Puma also

Many Thanks

Sam

The 172 is perfect if you want to do more trackdays as its got no ABS, ESP or Aircon and would make and project.

The Trophy's not worth the extra money if you focsuing mainly on track stuff but as an everyday car and for occassional trackdays there awesome IMHO.

My car will be at FCS this Sunday so if you fancy a chat let me know?

Also try www.cliotrophy.co.uk or www.allvehicles.co.uk - Steve there has sold over 30 Trophy's.

Mine came from him.

I'm a Cup owner...but I would have the trophy as they are newer (newest Cups are on an 04 plate-but V.rare most tend to be between 02 and 53), also the seats in the Trophy are Recaros and they are gorgeous compared to the cloth interior of the Cup. You also get more toys in the Trophy over the Cup...plus, Trophy's should still have warranty...(can sometimes be worth its weight in gold!)

Oh and 172's Trophy's are not that hard to tune its just you don't get massive gains.

My cars now running 183 bhp at the fly and it started with 165 bhp as standard.

The 182 ps if for the engine on an engine dyno and not fitted to the car.

LOL

The Trophy is perfect for ever day use, you have the TCS, ABS, Aircon Cruise control.

On top of that the car just sticks to the road and the seats are perfect. On the other hand if you are looking to do track days, you may as well save yourself a few quid get a cup, strip it out and with the cash you have saved buy a set of buckets, coillies and a few other bits.

I have never regreted get the Trophy, it is so much fun, and envolving, but when all you want to do is just drive you have all the comfort as well.

In terms of power tbh if you are looking to get good gains forget about the 1*2 and go for something with a turbo. the best you can do to get useable power is Inlet matching, decat, cams, and a remap even then your talking £2k + and that in most cases will get you around 200bhp. Its well known that the RS are pretty much to the top of there performance, unlike the ST150 Fiesta which has huge potential but again once tuned only push out 215bhp max.

Where you based, if you near essxe your more than welcome to have a look at the Trophy. Just drop me a line.

  172 cup
I think this is a great question... If you want to tune your clio then I would go for a 172 cup and spend the money you save on tuning, suspension and brakes. If you buy a trophy and try to tune it then it would be worth less cos ppl dont want a tuned trophy. Just my thoughts...

You could always just keep all the original parts to return it to standard when your selling it.

:)

  A Beautiful R32
Trophy mate definately. Those racing pumas are a good car though... why did you want to swap from that?

  182 Trophy
Wow everyone seems very helpfull here :)

Trackdays are something i want to do BUT ill only do a few a year so it will mostly be used for travel and road fun ;)

Ref tuning i simply ment say a BMC Induction kit and a Cat back decat and say manifold to get it sounding a little more intresting

If anyone fancys posting a few pictures of theres it would be appreciated ! And thanks for the offer of coming down to see the trophy i only live in surrey so ill throw you an email

Many Thanks

If i was you i would pick up a cup in good condition for about £5300, saving pretty much 4k,

then spend 4k to improve the cup, better brakes, SS exhaust, new seats if thats what your into

Sure fire way to waste 4K.

Take the trophy, you won't regret it.

Had mine a year, still loving it.

Service depends on which one.

All will have at least a years full warranty, so why worry.

You can extend warranty if you want to.

The 32k Service is the only real big bill, around 250-350 depending where you take it.

Pads and discs will set you back from £120-£250 depending what you put on and where you get them from.

Tyres are £70-£90 a pop but its always best to keep looking at prices as some places do have some deals on.

The shocks are a bit of a sticky subject, some of the guys on Trophy.co.uk have looked into rebuild costs and time scales, but you shoudl find with mainly normal road use 50k is more than achavible before a rebuild.

Buy a CUP and bank the 4k

Look just as good if you ask me and the colours far better on the CUP but that's just my opinion .

On day to day driving I doubt you'll notice any differance in the handling.

Saying that if you like the colour and can afford it go for the Trophy.

Great

Now i just need to find a good one , got about £9000 to spend and looking around apart from some dreamers they go for around that price ( maybe + another £500 )

Oh and whoever asked before, The racing puma was great it handled so well and put a smile on my face everytime i drove it problem was it didnt have enough go and also the amount of money i spent on fixing it was CRAZY !!!

Also - Is there another Steeringwheel people like to put on the trophy because i think the standard one is A . Hideous and B . MASSIVE not keen on aftermarket halfords specials ;)

Oh well

Sam

If you can afford the Trophy, that's the one I'd be going for. It'll hold it's value better as well been that they're limited edition. Also, much nicer seats :)

Aye agree.

The sun has be shinning for it to look good. In dull conditions it just looks flat. same for the RB's i suppose?

Had my Trophy just over 11 months now and absolutely loving it, I know loads of people have said it already but definately get the Trophy! So much fun, sticks like glue and still has various toys that were removed from the cup, especially the driver aids which you never know when you'll need - I had some plonker pull straight out in front of me, so close I couldn't believe it, in a 60 limit and I'm convinced without ABS and ESP I'd have been straight in the back of them, I reacted, the Trophy just went where I pointed the wheel and in the blink of an eye it was all over :approve:

As people have said they hold their value better, mint ones are still selling for nearly as much as I paid for mine, which is good to see :) And as people have said, there's still warranty left on them at the moment.

  182 Trophy
trophy has more toys and decent performance too

Thanks for all of the responses, i will be looking at buying in the next 2 weeks it all depends on when the buyer of my car is ready. Will obviousley sign up to membership and post a loads of piccies

A few questions , Trophy owners who do you usually use to service and work on your clio ? Do you use a specialist garage or ur local dealer

What toys does the trophy come with ? what could you spec as options

What should i look out for when coming to purchase a trophy

Thanks

Sam
