172 Cup rear brake efficiency....

Yes I know, more threads on this than anything but this may be useful for the records.

We are all aware that the 172 Cups are renowned for failing the MOT due to the rear braking efficiency.

My question is, what is the borderline reading that is classed as a pass.

Should a Cup with no effort whatsever be classed as a pass?

If not, what resistance becomes acceptable as per the Vosa guidline.

There is no set figures for passing the test on Cup rears. The tester is supposed to take into consideration low brake efficiency on our Cup's as shown on the VOSA site "Tester Notes" as for no braking at all, no, I can't see that passing.. In the end it is down to the tester on whether it passes or not.
Before you get yours tested I suggest you take the rear brakes apart and give them a good clean up and check the pads and discs are not too far gone. Make sure the pistons rotate and adjust the handbrake up last. That will give you a fighting chance of passing.

It's not due to Feb, but last time I know the reading was fairly low and I will be taking it to a different garage next time who may not be as lenient/knowledgeable on the issue.

Fred?
