172 Cup speedo

Driving home in the rain today doing about 50 my speedo dropped to zero, the car surged a little then returned to normal.
Having been out in it again it does the same every so often.
Am I right in thinking it is just the speedo sensor on the back of the gearbox? Also is there a way to check the needle works?

yes sensor or abs ring.u can check dials by holding end stalk in which does the computer mpg stuff then then ignition on

abs ring? I didnt think cups had them?

I also just tried the dials and they all work fine.

Could be a wet/loose connection on the speedo sensor in the gearbox.

Sounds like mine a month back, was my sensor, i just got one off flea bay! Works perfect

Definitely speedo sensor, loads of threads on it.

Just went out its working fine now ill just wait until it packs in completely.
