172 Cup to 182... Should I?

  172 Cup
My 172 Cup is coming up to it's 3rd birthday and it's time to decide on it's fate.

Do I keep it and once the warranty expires and it's first MOT is out the way get it "decated" and a decent exhaust on it or should I trade it in for a 12 month old 182?

I'm tempted back towards the toys (had a 172mk2 before the cup) but I've never driven a 182 and don't really know if the hassle of swapping is worth the effort!?!?!?

Anyone else gone from a 172 Cup to a 182?

I'd stick with the Cup unless you're set on the toys. But I'm biased having just purchased a Cup. :p

i agree.....personally i would never pay that large extra amount for a few bits like climate control or anything. all personal choice though eh :)

  MINI JCW
its not just a few bits though there are alot of differences between the 172 cup and the 182

10 Bhp
twin exhaust
Climate control
Much nicer interior
Xenons
More refined due to better sound proofing

to name a few, also you will be getting a newer car as well. At the end of the day you have to decide if the 182 worth the extra money and IMO it is

It's not just the toys...

I've had the same car for 3 years now, the warranty is about to run out and let be honest the interior isn't the best.

like danny said "buy a second hand trophy" that would be the only 182 i would upgrade to,being that little bit more distinctive than a normal one,its like your cup in comparison to a normal 172 it does stand out a little bit more

thats my opinion any way:)

well, ian has done it so fair enough. personally those reasons listed wouldnt be enough for me to swap for what is (essentially) the same car. fair enough though....... :)

Take one for a test drive then decide for yourself.

You don't know what our missing out on. if you don't drive one.

Looks to me like a few bits..

Keep the 172 cup m8...don't down grade to a 1weight2

I went from a full fat 172 to full fat 182.Well worth it

Care to describe what makes the 182 better?
I've only driven a Trophy so far, so can't compare them. I'm thinking of getting a 172 and you seem to save a whole load of money for only 10bhp.

trophy, otherwise not worth the change imo, or try out a few other makes

remember the cup has the quickest book times too, the ten bhp counts for nothing as the cup saves over 80kg..........

Is about whether the newness is worth it to you... thats the most important bit, theres little to choose between the cars. imho

Don't do it mate.

At the end of the day it's the same car! If you really want to change wait 6 months, then the new RenaultSport will be out.

I'd wait for the MK3 RS before deciding mate. Test drive that, and trade in if you like, otherwise keep the Cup.

I dont think £3k is justifiable.

I was going to swap last year...but people on here told me not to and they were right :)
The only things l would want would be better seats,ABS and traction control...as l'm no Richard Burns!
I would wait till the new RS is out then buy a Trophy!

That's a tough one Griff.

I went from a 172 to a 182 with Cup packs, but all along I wanted a 172 Cup. For me personally I'd swap it for a Trophy as the two cars are very similar in how they feel to drive, but I'm not sure I'd swap the Cup for a 182, unless you really want the comfort and warranty.

I swapped because it was a newer car.The warranty was going to be up on the 172 and i was offered f+f from ren wolves at a rediculous offer. So i basically sold the 02 172 and got an 05 182 with full options bar sat nav for less than 2k.This made sense to me at the time as i can still sell the 182 today for more than i paid.
Plus the colour and the wheels were great looking too and originally i had wanted a cup and this was the nearest colour.
So now i have the colour i always wanted ,love the wheels, the cruise control, xenons, climate etc etc......
Perfromance wise theres nout in it really, but when i switch the tc off im sure its a bit quicker than the 172 on the straights...

ian......
