172 cup to 197 cup help please

  S2 106 GTI
I am in a debate - should i sell my cup to get a 197 cup?? after the meet we had yesterday I stopped in at kendal on way home and got chatting to a salesman. He said they had one in and it lasted 2 days before it was sold! He said they were getting another in a a couple of weeks for there show room. I got chatting about prices etc... and he mentioned about the 0% finance offer going on over 3 years.

I love my cup to bits and never got board of driving it, but I am torn between the two all the way home I was doing the 'pros and cons'

My cup is very quick, had alot spent on here by me and the last owner, last rolling road it made 197bhp 174.7lb/ft since then I have had it full customed 'live' mapped, changed the exhaust, air filter and had more polishing work done.

The new cup won't feel as quick (i don't think) but its new! with less miles etc....
197 is in white which i LOVE!!!!

can I ask people who own the 197 cup to give me there reviews about them,

I am going to go and test drive it, but that it will have delivery miles it won't be run in!

OH I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!!!!!!

the 172 cup and 197 cup are two very diffrent cars. it doesnt have the true "cup" feel so i have read/ been told. try and get a halfday test. maybe pay £40 or somthing to do it but will give you a chance to give it a real run

I dont have a 197 Cup, but do a 197, having previously had a 172 Cup and a 182. I'd say have a drive lol!!! The build is MILES ahead of the previous Clio. The Mk3 is more refined, and has a much superior drving posision. Also the gearbox has a nice short positive throw. The handling is also good, looooads of grip, much more planted than the MK2 Clios. It wont feel as quick, nor will be as quick if your Cup runs circa 197 lol. Also the steering will take a week or two to get used to, as it has an electric rack which feels lighter. There is also no getting away from the fact it is a bigger car. I do miss my Cup from time to time, more old school and raw feeling.

I probably shouldnt post here but i notice you mention Kendal, was that Kendal Renault/ kendal motor village?
Unless you know them can i advise you go elsewhere and buy the 197.

We havent long bought a car from there (nearly new but a rare spec) so i couldnt just go elsewhere or i would have, and the customer service after was/is hopeless, i'm still waiting the handbook they promised me 2 months ago! (this is only the half of it)
Do yourself a favour and go to another.

Mark. :)

Cheers for the comments people! I will go and have a test drive and see what they are like, might not like the feel of it lol. I had a drive of a 197 when they 1st came but it only had on 2miles on it. I loved the way it felt and drove but this was a good few months ago now

Yeah, totally different. Reason i got one is it didn't cost me a lot to change, (mines 2nd hand) and they are super exclusive round here, not even seen a 197 on the road locally. Also with having my Cup 3 for yrs i fancied a change!!! (mistake to get the 182 :() I wanted to get my teeth into a 197, not seen any on coilovers etc ;). The engines do loosen up nicely with more mileage on them , so bare that in mind :)

yeah was talking to a guy at the meet who had a R27 in blue, he said it was nice but drank the juice and you had to really rev it to send it on

  Clio 182.
Get a 197.............. Dibs on Maxogen lol

On a serious note, id buy one in a second if i could afford it. The reason i bought an RS in the first place is cos i fell in love with the 197, and i will get one soon enough. Just biding my time.......

I'v not regreted selling my 182 FF, and loving the CUP more and more.

Would only of got a R27 in White, but they only made one and it will never be sold!!!! The FF never really appealed to me, don't miss the toys. Couldn't live without AC.

I just love the look of them!! but I will totally miss my cup 'IF' (and thats a big IF) i sell my cup. I have found one close to where I live so going to have a look at it on sat, its a 57 reg and around 1k on the clock.

I also like the R27 in liquid yellow ;) oh decisions, decisions!!!!

R27 has soft touch dash (hard on Cup) colour coded mirrors and bump strips. Recaro seats (option on Cup) AC as standard (option on cup) Also limited to 500 iirc. Cup has the same suspension set up as R27, with red Brembos.

Oh and LY is for girls and gheys ;)

so the recaros are an option on the cup, would it be worth the money for a R27??

Yep Recaros are a option on the cup.

If you can find a R27 then yes they are great value for money... I was offered a brand new one with quite a few optional extras for under 14k.
