172 Engine Mounts

I think one of my engine mounts might be on its way out, i dont get knocking under hard acceleration, but if i let off at around 5500 rpm the engine does move a bit and i do get a bit of vibration through my gearstick.

Been reading through the posts on here, and it seems there are 3 engine mounts, an upper one (top left of engine bay), one under the battery tray (is that the upper gearbox mount?) and a lower gearbox one (is that known as the dogbone mount??)

Now which one would you guys recommend swapping/checking?

I hear checking and tightening the upper gearbox one can often resolve some issues.... Also been told that swapping the upper engine one to uprated gives vibration, so not to keen on that idea.

Is it best to swap standard or uprated?

All help appreciated.

there are actually two gearbox mounts - one under the battery tray and one underneath the gearbox itself - in addition to the dogbone and the top engine mount - so that's four in total. have another look on search as there are some useful diagrams out there.

as well as uprated dogmount bushes, you can (apparently) use the top engine mount from other models (Kangoo DCi? - read this on search once but not sure if i've remembered correctly) as it's stiffer.

if you use stiffer mounts, you're going to get more vibration - there's no getting away from that - so i guess you might be happiest with standard.

I used to have Group N engine mounts.... Wouldnt be able to live with them on the road though. Very Vibraaaaaaaaaaaty
 
sorry for the slight off-topic but was that^ in your 172? if so, can i ask where you got them from and how much they were roughly?

No they were in my Rallye. There great on a track car to be honest, but couldnt live with them everyday. IIRC you can get them for the 172 from YozzaSport for about 1k?

Standard sounds like the way to go then for what i need... But which one of the four mounts do i need ?
