172 front brakes

  172, Westfield
Need to replace the front brakes on my mk1 172 and have looked at previous posts and the DS2500 pads seem to be recommended. However people say they will wear the discs out quicker and wondered how quickly. I only do about 5000 miles a year so would they last a couple of years. I do not do any track days just road use. What would be the best discs to get with these pads? Is it important to replace brake fluid as I have never done this when replacing brakes before?

You will get through a set of disk as fast as pads maybe 1.5 sets of disk per set of pads.
Its no huge problem though there cheap enough realy.
They will last a few years though I wouldn't worry.
Standard pads are good value and better than the Brembo OE ones but the Brembo ones have wear indicators on them so its easy to know when there worn down and need replacing.
Definatly change the brake fluid though and bleed the setup whilst your at it though.

  Audi A6 (S3 on order)
You can use original discs, DS2500 pads and do a dot4 fluid change. 5k a year is not going to cause you any problems.

I did numerous trackdays using DS pads over a period of 2 years, the discs were barely worn and the pads were about half worn when i sold the car.

if you dont like squeeky brakes... dont get the ds2500's

they squeel like fcuk!

I have had 2 set of DS2500 and some 3000 never squeeled. May i suggest when you fit them put lot of copper slip on. They will not squeal if you do this.

If you have not put enough on then they squeal.

i put copper slip all over the ends, i.e. where the 'prongs' are?

they squeel, tap brakes, they'll stop squeeling then a few mins later the squeel is back
mate in his focus rs said his squeeled when in like traffic and drivetrhu's etc

lastnight in a spot of traffic mine were squeeling, like trains do. lol
