172 Gear knob removal

Can anyone help?

I have ordered a SPARCO lift-up reverse gear nob and have only just found that getting the old one off my Mk1 172 is bloody difficult!! - Can anyone tell me how it is attached as it doesnt seem to unscrew or click on/off. Because its metal I doubt it can be cut off either. - Any ideas?

erm dunno bout 172 but my valver one was glued on and it came off after lots of pulling

some peoples seem to come off really easily and some have to be cut off

get some grips on it and give it a good yank!

I expect so, would have to be epoxy resin or something though because if it runs down the shaft and sticks the lift up reverse bit youre buggered!!

no its easy just pull+twist it really hard and it will come off

the new one has a grub screw to fix it on
