yeah its the same housing as a williams box, so yes itll fit, but im not sure wheter the speedo output willl work on the 16V

172 = JC5 129
williams = JC5 048 (i think)
16V = JB3 ???

Is there any price advantage in getting a 172 box as opposed to a willy/valver box?

You can often get 172 boxes for less money. There more common since Williams boxes are much rarer.

The box will fit no problem shaft etc all match up. Its a better box, although saying that the Williams box is quite good altoough most of them have over 70k on them and many well over 100k on them. 172 boxes are much newer and have lower milage so would be withstanding better abuse plus they have better bearings and bits. The only problem is the output for the speedo is electric on the 172 and manual on the Williams so youd have to try and fix that and its not going to be easy.

the speedo output pulls out so you can place you mechanical drive in from the valver/willy.. the mountings on the 172 boxs differ somewhat to the JC5 /JC3 bell housing,, you would have to have a mount fabricated, to get it to exactly the same holdin place as the valver one.

I have a jc 5 5053 box froma 2.0l megane... but have elected to utilise a recon valver box for the time being...

if you need pics of mountings look on willy clio i photod it
