172 gearbox or clutch noise

when driving in 2nd 3rd or 4th but it's loudest in 2nd and 3rd. When I sink the clutch I'm starting to hear a loud wearing noise, it's hard to explain, it's like a wineing/shuddring noise always hear its when I change from 1st too 2nd gear, and 2nd too 3rd.Car has done 62300 miles. Gearbox going. is this a common problem.

Sounds like the release bearing. Can you only hear it when you sink the clutch?

Yeah release bearing mate, mine is the same, been like it for ages, i don't think there is much you can do apart from deal with it until you need the clutch doing, as its quite a big job to sort it!

dame it, when do i know if the clutch will need replacing.

Mine did this with a brand new gearbox and clutch in, quality Renault parts.
Turned out to be the gearbox in the end.

Good sign of clutch nearly going is a very high biting point, other than that i'm not really sure!

does sound like release bearing, if it is it will probably break up eventually or seize

Is this like a short loud "grunting" sound you can hear over the revs when accelerating in 1st?

I'm getting this in mine, only got the car so unsure what it is & if it's normal or not :S

did you hear the noise when you put the clutch in or released it into gear??

cheak the gearbox level and top if if needed.

Could be the thrust release bearing but I'd think its the gearbox or selectors.

Mines the same wearing noise when clutch depressed and loud rubbing when brought up to the bite point. Only had the car 6 days!!! anyways its going into renault on thursday i'll update with the cost !!!

Hi all like i said, went to the stealership today. First thing they say the usual... If we do the work the diagnostics are free. if you take it elsewhere £85. Already im on a downer Anyways 4 hours later i get the call. They suggested that the whole clutch assembly needed to be replaced. Total cost......... £865!!!!!!!!

So i picked up the car £85 down took it to a clutch specialist to look at. They are fixing it for me next week for £285.

I feel abit unsure about 3rd party gararges but ill let you know how it goes
