Hello guys...........having some trouble with my head unit. French electrics are just crap. Don't think the head unit is faulty as I tried another one and that didnt work either. Sometimes this one works, most of the time it doesnt.

Anyway. Can anyone tell me what the wires marked GREEN are???
One of them must be for when you turn the headlights on....what are the other two??

Thanks
Steve

Aha. Phone mute sounds like it might be my problem. The stereo works fine in every way apart from no sound. But once in every 50 journeys the sound works. Must be a bad connection or something causing it to mute?
Any problems if I just disconnect this phone mute?

no, normally it will be disconnected. I have it wired to my bluetooth kit and iirc it normally @ 12v and is pulled to ground to mute. just disconnect it and see (it should float high)

That didnt work :(
What else could stop the head unit sending sound to the speakers? Everything is working apart from sound!

im assuming that the 2nd iso connector is connected which connects the speakers ?
Have you isolated the head unit Vs car to determine which is faulty ? (ie does this head unit work in a different car and does a known working head unit work in this car ).
if you get no sound from all speakers then id suggest head unit as all speakers wouldnt fail together.
Are you able to measure the lines with a voltmeter at all ? as you could check the mute line - also could toggle it to ground as iirc, it shows 'mute' on head unit / display which indicates the status.

Thanks for your help Wolf. Yes we got the mute working, it falshes up on the screen as SPEECH. Also tried disconnecting the Speed wire as well which did nothing.
I did buy another head unit from ebay and tried that and it still didn't work. When I put my original one in again it worked for a day.
I sold the one I bought and have had good feedback on ebay so it must have been ok.
I need to try an aftermarket one I guess and see what happens.
Its so weird cos everything is there and working, I can control the head unit and do everything that you normally can do but no sound will come out. Then occasionally I'll start the car and it works! I drive to work and its fine. I turned it off and on and it works. Get in the car after work and then it doesn't work!!! Even though nothing has changed or moved. So strange. I've gone months now without a stereo and its driving me crazy! lol

sounds like a problem with the permanent/ignition live not giving a strong enough feed-very common with corsa's,itd be better to test with an aftermarket radio as you can swap around perm and ignition to test certain methods

Hi Matt,

Any ideas what the best way of fixing this is?
I haven't touched it for a few weeks but it worked once the other day.

Thanks

Hi mate,

Sorry to jump in the thread but what is the iPod label?!
Is there some way of connecting it up using standard H.unit?

  RenaultSport 172
Hi Sean. Yes You can connect your standard head unit to an ipod. Its called the Renault Tunepoint. Its fantastic. You can control the ipod through the steering wheel controls. It simply connects to your head unit where the cd changer does.
I paid about £100 from Denty on here. However I am selling my clio soon so how about you take mine for £70 delivered?
You can also connect usb devices to it as well.

Regards
Steve
