looks awesome mate is it running yet? are you just using the standard exhaust for now with a custom decat to link both the 172 manifold and standard system?

does the couple have electric power steering or hydrolic?

coupe dials work fine?

got a mate whos got a coupe whos been interested in something like this

Thank you mate, exhaust wise i have a cat back longlife system but will be using the custom decat to join the 172 mani to that system ( when it arrives). The power steering in mine is the same as the clio mate but not sure about the phase 1 coupe. Dials should be ok, had interior lights etc on yday but the engines not running as of yet. :)

So a very long time since i updated this thread. After failing to sell the car ive persisted with it and the decision was made to send the car to AP-Developments in Swansea where she has been for the last 4 months lol.

Trailored up to APD

Once the car arrived at APD it needed:

  • Exhaust system
  • Engine loom wiring
  • Genral running issues.
There were several issues with the car at APD. Non more anoying than 2 parts including starter motor and alternator bought from cliospares.com 8 months previous that didnt work at all. Once they were fitted back ok and Craig at APD had done the wiring, the ecu was sent to RSTuning to be decoded and an emulator fitted.

Then the car went to highly recomended by you lads Prospeed and had a custom manifold back system made to imcorporate the 172 CAT and a full two silenced system from there back with a lovely oval tip.

Ive not heard the system yet but im confident with Charlie and his crews work and just cant wait to hear it.

As it stands now i missed a call from Craig today to see where the car is at. He did say it would be on the rollers yday to see what she makes amd then home to me (i hope). Just an MOT, log book change and a new windscreen then lol. And before you all moan id prefer to do things the legal way :)

Will keep you updated.

Also once all is well and shes settled in im looking to go back to Craig at APD for A live map on his RR some cams and matched inlet. Watch this space.

What conversion have you done? I phoned DVLA to see what i needed to do. I was adviced to send a covering letter to them stating the change of engine and engine code etc. They then sent my V5 back saying i had to have a letter from the garage doing the work etc so no i havent as yet but i need to before i can MOT her.

1.2 to F4R conversion, sent my V5 to dvla and got a letter sayin they need report from a garage who done the work etc, pain in the arse tbh,

Why do they need it before MOT time ?

When I read through and it said that they needed a mechanics report, what I did was jest ask the local garage to sign on paper with there address on it confirming that the engine has been changed to what you are saying it is.

Progress looking good mate, was wandering the other day what had happened to the car glad its not been abandoned. Is the AP-Developments a new company? Have a feeling that the guy who runs it is an ex student from where I'm currently studying.

APD isnt all that new mate no. The chap Craig Stanley specialises in engine rebuilds in Swansea, hes on here with a name of Stan. He also does matched inlets, live maps for clio etc. The majority of the time ive been there its Renaults hes had outside. But he will do anything i think.

Ahh I see, it was just a lecturer of mine said an ex-student was doing something similar in Swansea and started up recently and when I looked up the company on Google the site came up as under construction so I put 2 and 2 together and got 22 it seams :clown:

I'm pretty sure its you my lecturer (Malcolm McDonald) has been talking about. I'm currently studying at Swansea Met (Swansea Institute when you attended) and doing the same course, Motorsport Engineering BEng. Currently on my second year

Probably, we got on well.

Keep an eye out on the notice boards, I'll have some posters up soon :p

Well bad news to report. The car was incorrectly timed up by a friend before it arrived at Craigs. And as a result has serious damage to the engine. Im pretty gutted tbh as this whole project just seems to be plagued and is yet another set back to the list.

So the engine has to be striped and assesed. And its going to cost a fortune :(

Stick at it mate!!!

Projects aren't supposed to be plain sailing, they're designed to make you want to kill yourself with the toolkit you use on the car. Or is that just me....

  Fiesta ST-3
The funny thing is Craig left a message with me on saturday to say could i call him monday morning. It was my birthday that day and i honestly thought he was going to say shes all ready to come home but no lol how wrong could i be. But nope not going well. Im not trying to find some decently priced cams to stick in whilst its all off to cheer myself up.

Today is a good news day

Im so chuffed its unreal.

After several weeks of letter writing and phone calling to the DVLA i have finally recieved my log book back marked as a 2ltr 172 woo hoo.

Sorry it may not mean much to you lot but this has been one of the most difficult parts of the whole thing, with the DVLA putting hurdles up all the time. But at last its changed. So now as soon as the cars back, shes going for a pre mot, then the full MOT, insurance, tax and jobs a goodun!
