172 mk2 1/4 mile time

  2012 WRX Waggon

if Paddys times are out to go by, ull be able to go faster, I think Paddy did a 14.7 bog standard (think Adis been giving him lessons)

Oh...I notice ur car is red....red ones are supposed to be really rapid ;).

U notice much difference with the Viper (apart from a lighter wallet)??

I was gonna ask this question today actually as Im running at york tomorrow for the first time. Im hoping for 15 seconds. If I get into the 14s Ill buy everyone a beer!

Neil82cup - why would a time at york be different to crail? They run championships at york so surely their timing gear cant be inaccurate?

oh ps my 172 is a mk2 with about 2k on the clock and no mods (will be taking the spare out tho!)

watch it Neil!

14.9 is a mint time for a STANDARD car.......... and it will go quicker on sunday

If you go quicker that will prove my point even more! A STANDARD 172 will not get below mailto:15.0@Crail">15.0@Crail. Think about it the guy with ralley 306 did 14.8 (a 306GTi @ crail runs 15.7-16.0) Craggy did 14.75 with minimal mods @ crail a VTS will do about 15.3-15.8. Im not the only person to say yorks times are a good .4 out. Just because Craggy can stay with a 172 does not mean its super quick I have seen loads of 172s struggle to get below 15.6 @ Crail he should maybe come north of the border and race a proper good un:D:D

14.anything is good for a standard-ish Mk2. Paddys 14.9 is the fastest standard time Ive heard of so far in a Mk2. Git :devilish:

itll be goin quicker tomorrow mike!

And Neil, if theres a few people up for it id go up to Crail and have a pop there.... i reckon high 14s is doable, cant see how YOrks gear could be .4 seconds out with laser timing?

all this sh*t bout yorks timing being out is bollox.

if yorks is out so is pods......which i doubt......as they both use the same timing equipment.

what timing equipment does crail use??????

candles n string?

but on the other hand if yorks is sooooooo much quicker than crails and more members using york than crail, how bout u n teady come down to york one weekend so u can run a sub 15 sec run?

but uve got a 172 n they dont like runnin sub 15 secs, so crails timing sounds about right, and i KNOW yorks is lol

looks like il be strugglin to crack 14.8 at crail then eh?

il still be ahead of ur 172 tho hehe

Crail uses the exact same timing gear as the POD, infact this year Crail and the POD have an official affiliation!

yeah, how many people run the same or slower times at york than at pod

ed stirling, 14.7 at both

matbrown, 14.7 at pod, 14.9 at york

dint you run similar times at pod too jon.so if crail is slower i reckon you find another venue mate! cos its there thats out not darn sarf

  S2000

Its this years times that we are querying, dont think anyone has run at both this season, could be wrong! Last years times didnt really jump out as being optimistic!

I know I can get below 15 cause I got into wheelspin on my best times and can probably shift faster.

Im not sure about the viper since I havent installed it properly but it sounds better than standard and feels quicker than my old k&n.

Yeah and one question, do you 1/4milers turn everything off when you do a run? Oddly I got better times with the thermostat on

  Alfa Mito 155TB

Call me a dizzy blonde...but you know when you all do your 1/4 mile times in your 172/cups....do you switch off traction control...always wondered this?

I think the traction control system would artifically restrict the power down on the tarmac.

  S2000

Youre right weed, when on the 1/4 mile it is always a good idea to disable the TC! Remember though that most 172s and all of the Cups dont have TC!

err Ive got traction control.....just for the record.

Really cant see the point of having ESP on the 172 I for one would hate to have it on my car , I just dont trust if it rather rely on driver skill.

Paddy, you obviously havent seen Neils car against Imprezboys 270bhp beast have you!

...and the 14.8 was standard!

Oh well I did a 14.8 @ crail and as you know have added a couple of bits. Please dont make me laugh "spanking" lol:eek:

Paddy a 0-100 in 13 secs car pulled passed me only when in the guts of his 4th gear... starting 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th (him a car length behind) So you are saying that his clio will spank me ... oh right then..

Teady remember i did that 14.8 with only 2000-2500 miles on my car!

um isnt this missing some stuff?

you know....little old things like corners?

driver skill?

2 diff drivers in 2 diff cars, what does that prove with 2 variables, then add a third which is the strip and i heard crail (seen pics/vids) is absolutely pants...... nowt more than a glorfied WW2 airstrip.

both parties should hand over their cars to a 3rd party to do teh test to see whos car will give the spanking.

im lost........but maybe the point is at the end of the strip eh. ;)

Bloody hell lads calm down, its been like war of the bloody titans in here:mad:. Fair enough your all entitled to your opinions, but rather than argue about it like girls, get yourself down to York on Sun 27th July for the Performance GTI Hot Hatch Day RWYB (ClioSport) and do battle there.

And yeah it is down to the driver, not just the car btw.

Ill be down with my Stage 1 kitted RSI, so if there are any relatively standard 16valvers let us race ya ;)

Im saying I want to race one on the 1/4 mile, as far as I know there are no corners on the 1/4 mile ;)

Does the temperature of the day make a great difference to Strip times or not? I only ask because my best time at Santa Pod was 15.7 but it was 29°C.

I expected better times but had quite good starts (0.6second reaction times)

I only have a RamAir induction kit but the car is by no means a slow 172 (in comparison with cars I have had races with such as CTRs, Elises, Volvo T5s etc )

Yeah and I did a 14.8 on a standard engine with 2 k miles I would beat it easily now.
