172 or 182 engine?

  Clio 1.2 8v
hey all,

my little 1.2 clio has decided to break, well the gearbox has.

i was planning to sell it and buy a new car however this has happened.

is it worth spending the £££ to get the gearbox fixed? or do i just spend more £££ which i had saved and drop a 182 or 172 engine, gearbox etc in?

ive read through previous posts so please no comments like do a search.

its just a matter of opinion im after.

also if im doing the conversion on a budget... can the 182/172 engine fit on my 1.2 subframe and use the standard brakes/hubs etc etc until i find more £££ to get them?

as it is i dont have a car so im pretty much in a dark hole atm.

thanks all.

sam

If you've done a search then most your questions have been answered.

i woulnd't bother though get a 172 its easier or stick a different engine in unless you want a project to spend money on which you'll never get back.

theres a guy up here trying to put a 172 engine in his 1.2 - hes spent thousands so far been in 3 different garages and its still not in, as far as im aware hes sending it to a renault specialist down south to try get it in, so doesnt sound like its an easy job tbh

i was never getting married ffs! (well not until i waste a few more grand on cars ;)) i still might be going, its all a bit "up in the air" at the moment

Considering you can pick up ph1 172s for as little as £2500 I wouldnt waste any more money on your 1.2. Even if you did you'll stuggle to insure it for less than a standard 172 and you'll still have your poverty spec interior and bumpers etc.

+1, unless your plan to keep it registered at a 1.2
