172 ph1 oil filter question

Sup guys. busy changing my oil, took the old filter off and have a new one from renault. The one that i got from renault has a steel washer with a small black inner plastic/rubber bit lying seperate in the box. now the filter that i took off does not have that washer on it.

Ive tried putting the new filter on with the washer, but its a ball ache cuz i cant get the washer to stay on once place so i can screw the new filter on.

Is this washer important or can i just leave it off seeing as the old filter never had one on to start with. also the old filter was not a genuine renault part..

hold up... is that washer the sump plug washer that you get as a freebee in the oil filter box???

normally they do tend to chuck the sump plug washer into the box. so im guessing thats whats happened.
