172 ph1 to 182?

  Evo 6, E92 320d
I really can't decide if it's worth it, i'm getting bored of the looks of my ph1 and looking at either an RB or black gold 182. The only issue i can see is the 182 feeling slower, which i don't want.

  Trophy #473
I went from a Ph1 to a Trophy... definatly an upgrade. Ph1 172 may feel faster but in the real world... its f**k all.

the reality is ph1 arnt as fast as 182 especially when rolling, ph1 makes around 160 bhp on the rollers and 182 are 170 plus and it shows. so the answer is no it wouldnt be slower.

You're forgetting the weight difference fella. I've owned all the gens. The quickest I had was my original ph2 172, was one of those freakishly quick ones. But in reality, there is absolutely f**k all between all of them, bar the 172cup.

The 182 is more capable, can carry slightly (and I mean very slightly) more speed on a b-road. But the ph1 is a bit looser, more fun. And the cable throttle is massively better. Counter that with a much better interior in the 182, and it's down to personal preference. I sold 2 ph2's (by choice) because I felt I could gradually make a better ph1. And I'm glad I did.

Here we go...

Not sure that's going to stand, on this here forum. 182's are probably the worst of all the sports to make their power and the Ph1 is a fair bit lighter, so I don't think you are correct.

In reality, there ain't going to be enough of a difference to notice, so it comes down to bickering over tenths of a second here and there, in gear or off the line.

Clearly representative of every car on here then. Lol.

All depends how the driver wants to drive. Especially with nonsense like standing starts, it's all about how hard you're willing to bang the clutch/gears. 182 never admit that their cars aren't the quickest, they have a bigger number in the name, ergo it must be quicker.

But in every experience I've had the 182 has been faster so why would I think otherwise. I had a freakishly fast 172cup aswell. Lol

  B/G 182 + PH1 Track
The differance between the cars is nothing.

I do however think the PH1 always feel faster. Its all down to driver/driver weight.

Maybe you're just a bit brutal with a standing start.

So when the next comment from a Ph1 owner says he pulled on a 182, who's right and who's wrong? It means nothing!

Never had a mechanical fault like gearboxes or anything so can't be that brutal.
Was only playing fella. They are all different, point I'm making is that there is bugger all between all of them.

Yeah I've washed it once, now it's dirty again.

The rims are a f**king nightmare to clean. Might just get them done black and be done with it.

Widen your horizons...?! Nothing else out there you'd like?

Well this is only to get me to work, 100 miles or so a week and for me they are cheap to run/insure etc. I'm looking to get an rx7 come summer time as a toy.

I made this change 3 years ago so I'll offer my advice:

I regret trading the Ph1 for the 182.
The 182's certainly not slower, but its a very different car. I loved the rawness of the Ph1 which you don't get in the 182. The fly by wire throttle in the 182 is crap compared to the Ph1's cable. Tyres are £100 for the 182, £50 for the 172.

I miss the Ph1, as it offered more as a drivers car than the 182 does. Should you change? Nope, not for s**t.

This is all my opinion, I'm not looking to start an argument.
